I've had both. The AT&T DVR is far superior to Comcast and makes rebooting worth it. I only have to reboot maybe once every 4-6 months, not "every other day". A couple times a year I would have to reboot the Comcast modem, too. The internet is really flaky as well. You may not notice it doing normal web browsing, but try doing something that depends on the reliability, like VPN, video conferencing, Live Meeting, etc. Comcast would break the connection several times a day. With AT&T, I've never had the connection break, even after several days of being connected. Just try going to the Windows cmd prompt and run something like "ping google.com" and you'll see how bad Comcast can be.

Maybe it's where you are located. I have VPN on all day without interruption when I work at home. My google ping was 32ms, yahoo was 35ms.

Comcast has 20mb/sec service now too.

I just checked Comcast's website and their fastest plan in Folsom is 25MB/s continuous.....but it costs a whopping $115/month IF you sign up for at least one other service.

I just checked my ping to Google with my internet service with Surewest.....6.0 to 6.2 ms nonstop.

I have Comcast. You guys ever tried speedtest.net? On their test, I get 14ms ping (to some San Jose server) 9.18 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload.

I've been pretty happy with Comcast quality of service although it's on the pricey side.

Comcast's service (speedboost) is designed to artificially inflate their speeds temporarily. If you were able to run a speed test for more than 20 seconds, the speed would suddenly drop down to near their stated speeds.

I used to have their 8mb service. Speedtest.net would report 17mb, but if I ran tests back to back to back, it would suddenly drop to 8 or under and stay there until I stopped the tests. For most people, it does not matter (but it is false advertising). For me, it was very annoying since I typically transmit 500GB/month.

This is what $35 a month can get you on Uverse. I wish upload were better, but it's not too bad in typical home usage.

By the way, wireless has been stable for nearly two weeks after the factory reset. Looking good. I had considered using my own wireless access point (or DHCP server) to avoid wireless issues altogether, but you know I really like the Uverse 2Wire router's features.

Very few problems with the broadband end of the service.

I need to find a better DSL provider, I'm currently with AT&T running only DSL - no phone, no tv. Last month I changed over from the phone/dsl/cell bundle to only dsl and cell, and my speeds went from 5.5mb/s to 2.5

For $40 a month for DSL only, I expect better speeds then 2.5, maybe it's time to get Comcast?

I just checked Comcasts rate, or should I say scam.... it looks like you cannot get DSL only, it must come with a bundle

What starts off as a nice $19.95 introductory rate based on a $44.95 standard rate sounds good at first (even at $44.95) especially when they claim 12mb/s speeds.....

However...

Offer limited to XFINITY Internet Performance and requires subscription to either XFINITY TV or XFINITY Voice at regular rates. After first 6 months, monthly service charge goes to $34.99 for months 7-12. After 12 months, or if any service is cancelled or downgraded, regular charges apply. Comcast's current monthly service charge for XFINITY Internet Performance ranges from $42.95 to $60.95, and may vary depending on your area and other Xfinity services (if any) received. Limited to service to a single outlet. Equipment, installation and taxes extra. May not be combined with other offers. Speed comparison between Comcast 6.0 Mbps service and standard 1.5 Mbps DSL (downloads only). Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. PowerBoost provides bursts of download and upload speeds for the first 10 MB and 5 MB of a file,

Plus $7 a month for their modem.

Does anyone offer just DSL, without having to bundle in a bunch of other unwanted services with hidden fees and bait and switch games? I also do not want their Norton software, that's a deal killer.

$40 should get you 6 Mbps (sounds like your old deal) standalone. Are you counting all the misc fees when you say $40? Perhaps there are some equipment charges factored into the bundle that I'm not counting. What you have now sounds like 3 Mbps service, which "starts at" $35 standalone.

Mando,
How did you get so much on Uverse for $35? I'm on Uverse Pro (also $35) and not even hitting 3.

I have a "good forever" $10 bundle discount :)

A week ago I had what you have. I bit the bullet on the extra speed very recently (takes minutes to do the upgrade online)... Been using more Netflix and Hulu recently, and I noticed that the upload rate was also a bit better.

Back to taxes...

Here are our results (above). We are supposed to be getting 4x what we were with regular ATT dsl. I don't know how to read this. I don't know if it is good or not. I can see it is not as good as Surewest.

That's what I though too! That $40 should get 6mbps, that's what I had before I changed over to dry line DSL. When I called today they said the Pro plan that I have gets 1.5 to 3 max and after checking out that link you posted I see it is correct... and that it should be $35, not $40 because I have no equipment fees.

I just checked my bill and it was $40 billed as AT&T Internet Services. I bought my own 2wire modem a while ago so there are no equip rental charges added.

Seems for $40 I should be getting 6mbps, I'm going to call them again and see if I can upgrade to Elite or Max, I hope I'm not limited by the new dry line setup.

Here's my results
