I think if you got the same meal at $5 Diner than at Sutter Street Grill, the bill would be about the same. $5 was the "no frills" breakfast, it was extra for comparable breakfast plates.

I think the $5 Diner idea was a noble experiment, but in hindsight there is probably a reason you don't see this concept elsewhere. At least the restaurant was sold, hopefully the new owners will be successful.

I usually ordered the sausage and eggs for $5.00. It was good. My dad and I went there because of the price. We also go to the Waffle Barn where ham and eggs are about $4. Food is equivalent to the $5 Diner. My dad goes out to breakfast every morning so he usually haunts the places that has good specials. He has a route, $5 diner, Waffle Barn, Annies in Oragnevale and Brookfields in Rancho. He goes out to breakfast every morning so he usually haunts the places that has good specials. I go with him 2-3 times a week.
I will miss the $5 diner.

I think it is nice that you and your dad get together so often!

Ernie's in SLT was one of our favorites for decades and loved it when they opened in Folsom but there were problems. Servers were confused who was next and there was an older waitress that was plain rude. I tried the $5 Diner twice and while it had good prices, it was just ok and would prefer SSG, GMC or a breakfast burrito across the street.

Wish they would bring back the best of Ernies and make it go.

$5 Diner...never sounded appetizing to me.
