The franchisee for both filed for chapter 11 re-org, still operating but I would guess they are not thinking of expanding right now.

Green Acres in a 30,000 ft building plus other acreage ? Based on their existing business in two location with buildings around 4000 to 8000 sq ft plus outside space, I cannot understand how they could possibly use the new location and be financially profitable. Most Nurseries have a much smaller inside foot print and unless they are planning to compete with Lowes and HD for 'hard goods' , which I would think would be impossible, I think they might be making a big financial mistake in taking up the Circuit City location. I am sure outside storage for planting and landscape materials is much cheaper than a newly built 30,000 sq ft building...

Also from what I have seen at the Roseville Green Acres, they are not even near the class of plants and trees that Capital Nursery or Bushnell Gardens offer...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Haven't been to Capitol Nursery but I strongly disgree with Bushnell Gardens. Green Acres in Roseville has far more selection, at the same "class" and for lower prices than Bushnell.

I'm for one looking forward to this. I get my lawn fertilizer from GA (best 15-15-15) I used use Bandini (15-15-15) but HD stopped carrying the lawn formula a number of years ago and GA stuff has been the next best thing.

Glad I don't have to drive all the way to roseville anymore for this.

but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
"Wow! What a Ride!"

Home Depot, Lowes and OSH. There's a nursery on Douglas in Granite Bay, and at Madison/Sunrise in Citrus Heights. I think those are the 2 closest true nurseries.

Also, the article in the OP said Green Acres would open in May, not March.

I love working in our yard, have lots of roses, flowers, cypress trees, olive trees. . . I got everything from Homedepot and lowes, but needed a special dwarf snapdragon that I couldnt find at Homedepot/Lowes. I called Greenacres, they had what I needed, bought several flats. My first visit there and I really noticed how healthy the annuals looked and the variety, colors that I have never seen at our local stores. I can wait till Greenacres opens, I hope they do well, they are a little more expensive than. . .but worth it to me. . .

Their website says spring, I hope it's early spring and not late spring.

It's March. May would be like a ToyRus opening on December 26th. They will be open to collect the entire spring season.

So this is what they are going to do with all that extra space....

As big as some big-box stores, Green Acres' new Folsom location will have some of that one-stop feel, but focused on one specific area: Outdoor living. Patio furniture and barbecues will be featured, along with perennials and fertilizer.

Shuttered eight months after it opened, the 30,000- square-foot former electronics store has undergone a green makeover, which will cost about $1.2 million when complete. Workers enlarged doors to 12 feet tall to accommodate potted trees. A massive arbor will shade outdoor shrubs and bedding plants. A 13,500-square-foot greenhouse is to go up next week.

I'm looking forward to this!

Capital Nursery is having financial trouble and is unable to pay many of its suppliers but says they plan on staying open. Business is down 40%.

This should be pretty cool. I am definitely looking forward to checking this place out when they open. It almost sounds like an all-new concept - 68,000+ square feet with a giant nursery with and huge area for outdoor supplies, patio furniture, barbecues etc. They will probably offer some cool specialty items that you won't find anywhere else too.

I've never shopped at a Green Acres and like many get my basics at Home Depot or Lowes and shop for the rest at Bushnell Gardens or Capital Nursery. I'm looking forward to a quality nursery in Folsom....and keeping my tax dollars local! It's hard to remember it's Winter with the weather we've been having....it makes me ready for spring and planting!
