I have 2 Redwood trees someone can have. They are about 60 feet tall so you will need a pickup truck.

They might be a great tree in the middle of no where. The PO of my home put them in and I hope to take these last two out in the next year. Nothing but a mess. Always dropping the dead needles. Clogging the valleys on the roof and gutter system. Grass is just about non-existent under the tree as it gets no sun and the roots of the tree suck up the moisture. The roots are coming up in the backyard now and are working their way under the foundation. The roots will take over the drainage system. The last Redwood I took out had completely clogged the plastic drainage tube the runs from the backyard to the front. I say good riddance to them. Good luck to you if you are putting Redwoods in a typical small residential plot.

If you have a redwood and landscaping lighting make sure to keep the bulbs clear from dropped needles. The lights lit the dry needles that had collected on top of the bulb on fire, that is what caused the fire in my backyard.

It should be noted that sequoias are not appropriate for our climate and require significant amounts of water, much more water than should be used for one tree. Water consumption in Folsom is off the hook and, by far, the majority of that used is used on landscaping. We all should plant more plants that actually match our climate.

Since Folsom sold ( gave away)a significant amount of its water to Aerojet, that amount gets included in the total amount of water consumed within the City. This greatly distorts the amount of water being used by Folsomintes.

I live relatively close to the water treatment plant and have seen numerous times huge water trucks from outside contractors filling up and taking the water out of the city. ( I've followed some to see where they were going). When I asked about, I was told that this was NOT happening. This water also gets included in the amount of water the residents are allegedly using as well

About 10 years ago or so, the city hired some consultant to review our water delivery system for leaks. They discovered that Folsom was loosing a TREMENDOUS amount of water through leaks in our system. I was told that this report was kinda put on the bottom shelf and ignored.

This leaking system also unfairly distorts the amount of water Folosmintes appear to be using.

Another point re water supply is that vegetation taking lots of water should simply not be planted in Folsom if it can be helped. There are droughts and other drains from the lake that supplies Folsom water. Even in a non-drought year, Folsom's water supply has been threatened because of draws into the Delta, etc. And, beware the potential water bond that will potentially make that worse.

If you're not swayed by those real concerns, simple good Earth-citizenship should make you choose to conserve.
