hmm...I think there are some people on here who try to make claims that are leading, and based on biases because of differences in point of view rather than just discussing differences and at the end of the day accepting that the world is a myriad of differening perspectives.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Thank you for asking, I was thinking maybe somebody had switched up my rogaine perscriptions with something else.

I thought that those of us who had posted were some what in the same ball park with our thoughts, even though we may have some different philosophies about other issues.

I'm totally down with all the "replace Starsky" comments and the need for fresh council members overall, but the biggest reason for projected deficits is the local economy acting as a poor driver of tax revenue.

That term 'projected' is important. City managers look at likely tax revenue and base their budgets on best estimates of what they will receive in revenue in a coming year...that is a function largely of sales and property taxes, which have been volatile at best and in a free fall at worst. While criticism of the city's growth management is fair, governments' projected deficits could only be cured by draconian overreactions that would decimate local services and probably make the situation worse.

Look at it this way - professionals in the field of public administration with decades of experience are having difficulty managing this situation, which by all accounts, is the worst economic climate (globally) in 40 years, perhaps 80+ years. That would suggest they deserve a little slack if their estimates in projecting a budget end up a little off in the end. You may not like to believe it, but this stuff is hard to pull off well, folks...to their credit they've managed the situation about as well as they could.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one.

Gov Brown passed a budget that EVERYBODY knew unrealistic and had no chance of becoming a reality. He did it so he could politically boast that he passed a budget on time like he promised. It was all about politics and NOTHING to do about doing good job!

When I ran for the Council 8 years ago, I pledged to cut Aminstration by $1,000,000, because I knew back then that once growth stopped the City was going to have major financial problems. I talked about this EVERY opportunity I had along with the fact that our Public employee defined pensions plans were completely accuarially insolvent!

If I, with ZERO public Finance experience could Foresee this, how in the H..L, did all the so called professionals with all their years of experience not see it?

During my last visit EVER to a council meeting, the city Finance Director was projecting and INCREASE in property tax Revenue for the next year, when values were in a free fall! NOT A SINGLE COUNCIL PERSON CHALLENGED THIS PROJECTION!

We are in this situation because things have been mismanaged AND elected officials don't have the cahones to be willing to make the tough choices, to do what is right, like any normal family does! Instead our elecetd officials kick the can down the road because they don't want to alienate any special interest group or supporters!

WE can change this for our City. I have had enough of this and the time is now. I've researched the campaigns both politically and fiscally and it's not impossible to beat Mr. Starsky. I'm calling Folsom residents also polling people and businesses the old fashioned way and the answers are ALL the same. WE NEED CHANGE now. I've looked at all the past candidates who have mounted a campaign for City Council and all did the same thing; They all aligned themselves WITH the Fab 4 (Starsky, Morin, Howell, Miklos) and not railed against them and rally the voters. These career/ "hobby" Council member's claim they want to bring us to a balanced budget and grow the City, well we need to STOP spending and make cuts within the budget that actually help and grow from the inside out. Our economy is in a crumbles and if the City doesn't engage its people and bring in fresh/ new ideas Folsom will go bankrupt.

Help me in my fight in November; I am not interested in a contest against Jeff or Ernie; I’m interested in getting Folsom back on track and giving your kids and mine a safe, fiscally sound City to play in, live in and grow up in. SPREAD THE WORD!!!! I will need help- All of you will be a HUGE impact on making this happen! BE the solution! I'm not backed by other politicians or businesses who don't have a stake in Folsom. I'm not on any boards or committees and I don't care to be- I'm a average citizen who is sick and tired of my taxes going to finance 4 peoples legacy pet projects and freak show spending. It starts the November.... Then in two years it continues until these clowns are out of office and the peoples business is the peoples business again; until Jeff Starskys smug face is off that Council seat disrespecting and degrading all the residents who get their 3 minutes to speak then blowing them off.

The time is now.
