This is why I love to go to Land Ocean and why I am always touting it :)

Great food and atmosphere!

I'm sad to say that LO (& that includes Sienna in EDH, same owners) is off my go-to-list now due to the very poor quality of their beef. I was told they buy from a small, specialty rancher....I think they need to change their source. I had the absolute worst filet there last night. It was chewy. chewy! and drenched in a sauce that ruined any taste of the beef. I returned it for their standard filet... and that was bad. It was full of gristle. Yuk!

The service was great, the ambiance is nice, and the pumpkin creme brûlée was delicious. But the beef was terrible.

"Surf and Turf: 6oz flat iron steak and 3 jumbo shrimp tempura with country style potatoes; $23.95"

I would consider that a pretty poor excuse for a surf & turf. Not that they shouldn't offer an economy steak and shrimp as one of their options, but what about a good Filet Mignon with a Lobster Tail. Or a petite slice of Prime rib and some King Crab legs. What's the logic in naming a place Land/Ocean without offering some real nice Surf & Turf options?

Last week, the surf and turf was a filet and lobster, at market price.

On a side note, I just got back from Visalia...and I ate tender (able to cut with a butter knife), melt-in-mouth delicious filet migon 2 nights in a row. I find it rather interesting that the little podunk town of Visalia has better filet that LO in Folsom.

I'm not much of steak eater. I think my last one was a couple of years ago. I do go to Land Ocean for the service, atmosphere and a couple of nice menu items. Tonight my wife wanted to go, under the guise of getting the recipe for their jalapeno martini. We ended up having the tempura prawns with coconut butter and a wedge salad. Love Sammie at the bar.

Was that a special because it isn't listed on their online menu? If it's not on the menu, I'm not going to go there hoping their "special" is what I want to order.
Heck, their online menu doesn't even list lobster tail or crab legs. I know I had crab legs there when they first opened, but now that I don't see it on the menu, when I want crab legs, I'm going to go somewhere that I know will have them.

it was a special.

If you want to check it out, call & ask what the daily specials are.

I LOVE beef, so I'm always out looking for the perfect filet or burger (I don't have my own BBQ yet).

Oh, we got a gift certificate to LO sometime ago, but it doesnt sound consistent...Maybe we will go for an appetizer and cocktail only? Its my husbands birthday tomarrow and want to try it..I hope we're not disapointed.... I've also gotta look up the online menu to see if they have kids menus...tho, our daughter is an expensive date, she usually doesnt like the kids menu, shes more of a steak and lobster girl...the last time she ordered "beef" off the kids menu she about had a heart attack when a hamburger patty came out....haha

If you like calling ahead asking what specials are available, that's fine. that's not my gig. I'm not going to start calling restaurants before I go out to eat to see who has a special I might want to order. It's not my thing. If the regular menu isn't going to be able to meet my dining desires, then I'm not going there.

We were very disappointed with the food. Husband ordered surf & turf. The steak was super chewy. Their calamari for appetizers were limp and not crispy. I wrote to the manager and his response was to ask for extra cripsy :) Seriously ?? Why should I specify that my deep fried food should be crispy?. For the price we paid, we could have had a nice dinner at Ella's in Sacramento. We wanted to eat local, but it was very disappointing

Well, we went to LO last night...ordered the calamari app since they were out of crab cakes, asked for "crispy", they came out burnt, husband had surf and turf, the prawns were tiny and greesy, meat tough and not flavorful, potatoes were greesy and toooooo cheesy, I had the Thai salad, meat was tough, salad soggy...the dinner wasnt good, but the margarita, bread basket, atmosphere and service were outstanding...We wont be going back...

hopefully management will read these posts. they perfectly reflect my final experience there over a year and a half ago. I hate to see a potentially good restaurant fail for poor quality food. People love the atmosphere, service and the drinks, but poor quality food only gets over if everyone had had a few drinks (i.e. Poor Red's).

I've had pretty consistent food and service there. I'm really surprised by what others are experiencing. I agree that their management should see this.

I'm surprised, too. We gave them a second chance around the end of October and had a great meal. We ordered the Bistro Filet and the NY Strip. The filet was melt-in-your-mouth quality. Service was excellent. Still not fond of the lighting or the booth seating, but I'd go back.
