It leads the mind to wander...

It seems obvious to me that it's a personal manner. If the family doesn't want to share why we should respect that and not pry.

I agree and disagree. He did work for the city, and his death was sudden. His job could be dangerous, as he could be exposed to hazardous materials or people.

My understanding is that his death is being investigated, in placer county where he lived, which is a common practice in sudden or unexplained deaths.

I do agree his family has a right to privacy and I can only hope they travel this terrible road with as many loved one's and support as possible.

It is not fair to purvey suppositions. Jeff did not live in Placer County. Routine medical procedures may be followed, not some "investigation."

The commemorative celebration last Saturday was comforting. About 350 to 400 people attended.
Everyone loved Jeff, enjoyed his sense of humor, admired his fair play, and knew he loved football.

He will be missed because he lived his short life so well. His family, friends and admirers enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate his life.

There will be a fundraiser for Jeff's son Aven this Sunday May 6th at Folsom Lakebowl from 9-5pm. 50% of all proceeds from that time frame will be donated to Aven. Please mention to the front desk person that you are Bowling For Aven in order for the proceeds to go to his account. For all that knew Jeff knew that his son was his life and this is just a little way we all can help.

You are right - it is none of my business. But since it was posted on a public forum, it got me curious.

I agree. Someone could have just said "passed away at home" or "from natural causes" or something like that. It wasn't indicated if he was killed in a car accident or had been sick or what. I think everyone is naturally curious when its unexplained and unexpected at such a young age. I was having a conversation with someone about this just this weekend. Why is it we're curious? I think its an inate need to understand something that might be a threat to us, like a disease, etc. It really is none of our business, but we're a human community.

I hope his son has a wonderful support group. I'm sure from the comments I've seen that Jeff had many excellent friends who will look after him and help him on his path. Bowling to raise a few dollars sounds like a great idea.

I'm not making suppositions. It was reported in the news that he was found in el dorado county and that they are doing an investigation. They did not say it was thought to be foul play//merely an unexpected death.

I merely repeated what the news said was the official response at the time.

And looking into a suspiciously unexpected death = investigation. Just saying...

I'm glad his family had a nice wake.

I meant it more in that the cause of death was obviously not being mentioned so we should just let it be. Of course there's curiosity, but respect should win out.

Well, the truth is when the newspaper reports the death is being investigated; the first thing people think is suicide or murder. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but that doesn't stop the cat from being nosey!

That's right, good manners should stop the cat from being nosey.

I think manners should keep the simple human curiosity on the DL.

agreed, but with the way the press has completely obliterated personal privacy, they often invoke deeper interest with the readers that results in further curiosity, and further searches for answers.

California Law requires that any death where the deceased was not being treated by a physician within the 20 days prior to the death is an "unattended death" and therefore an autopsy is performed to determine the cause of death. Jeff was a resident of Placerville in El Dorado County and thus the "investigation" or autopsy is being conducted by the El Dorado County coroner's office.
