It sounds like they are going for a NY/Italian style pizza. They are probably hedging their bets, since most Americans wouldn't be happy with how Italian pizzas aren't crammed wtih toppings and cheese.

I just hope they find someone to edit their website! The errors on the one page were glaring. Ugh. I will never understand why businesses don't go the extra step to find someone (preferably someone educated) to proofread what they present to the public.

That drives me nuts as well.... and not only errors on websites, but also errors in print ads, brochures, printed menus, signs, etc.

You know, for all of Folsom's pizza places we don't really have a true neighborhood pizza parlor - not a chain or a gourmet place but the kind with pinball machines and a big screen TV.

I'm thinking the Mountain Mike's by Raley's has everything you are asking for. Maybe the Ciro's too.

I had mentioned not being a chain.

Ciro's is only a chain in that it has two locations.

Besides, I think you are remembering the Showbiz or Peter Piper or whatever of your youth and conflating it with your adult preference for novelty.

NY style, if done properly, is the best. It's hard to beat simplicity and perfection of balance.

It should have a crisp crust that curves slightly when you pick up a slice. It shouldn't go limp -- that's just wrong. Crust should be a salt dough but also with a touch of sweetness -- hints of both saltiness and sweetness -- should not be bland.

Add some nice sauce and nice, fresh cheeses and you've got a perfect pizza.

You can't get NY style around here. There are some good restaurants and chefs in CA, but I'd say we lack real artisans. What's CA known for -- CA food? What the heck is that? We don't have CA style BBQ (well Santa Maria but who knows that?), CA style chowder, CA style pizza, CA style hot dogs.

Sorry, thread drift. I miss NY pizza.

Not to drift further, but we just tried NY style pizza at Fornotino's tonight (by the new Raley's)... not bad. Crust was just a bit floppier than expected, but definitely better than most of the other stuff around here for my East-coast palette.

Sorry to drag up an older thread, but I finally tried Girasole Pizza and was blown away by it!

He makes his own dough, hand tosses it, makes his own sauce, they make their own chorizo, their own pepper flakes/oil and their own salad dressing. It is all very very good.

It is thin crust, so if you need a pound of crust and cheese to fill you up, you may not like it, but if you like high quality fresh ingredients and high flavor, I think you will enjoy Girasole.

I'm so happy to find a new pizza place we enjoy in town.

If you've been to Dominick's, how would you compare the two? What's their pricing like? (They don't have prices on their website.)

Comparing to Dominick's is tough. To my tastes, everything at Girasole is better than Dominick's, but to others I'm sure it would be vice versa. they both have thin crust, but besides that, it seems like totally different classes of pizza.

I took a take home menu, it says personal 8.95 (8"), small (10") 13.95, medium 18.95 (14") Large 22.95 (16"). Funny, I don't remember a personal being listed on the in-store menu. But that's for the named pizzas, the for a cheese pizza knock off 1-3 bucks (depending on size) then add $x.x for each topping. (I forget and it's not on the take-out menu) Delivery if order is over $30.

They also had a lunch special, 2 slices of cheese or pepperoni and a salad and soda for 6.95 I think. Might be a discount with student ID (the college is right near by). Oh, and they had 2 beers on tap, and some wine, but I didn't look into it much.

I had some leftover pizza today for lunch, not as good as it was last night, but still good. The house-made sausage was delish!

This place sounds great! I love homemade thin crust Italian pizza, can't wait to give them a try soon.
