I find it more than offensive to insinuate that the firefighters would slow their response times based on politics... "the dude" you once again show your ignorance with your useless responses. I challenge you to go up to the next firefighter you see and say that.... bet you don't have the juevos...to easy to troll here....

There was a recent fire administrator that determined that there wasn't enough fires in the empire ranch area to justify the building of the station in that area despite all of the money that was spent to prove that there was a need.... Don't blame the firefighters or their union.

If you don't think the unions control our state, you're the one being ignorant.

Yeah that's it, I'm a democrat. You are brilliant! How did You know? We're all against unions until they support our candidates, then unions are god-like LOL!
Before you continue to embarrass yourself and your union love - do some research, starting with the rules of this forum and name calling.

However, I'm just telling you what I saw on the interview and do I think most firefighters would delay service times on purpose-NO. But, there are some crooked unions etc out there and they would do just that. I think 7 +min is too long of a response time in Folsom. In Los Angeles, it's only 4, min and 45 sec response time for EMTs. And is the station on the corner of Blue Ravine and Willow Creek area only about two minutes away? Is that station open? I also noticed when a motorcycle cop fell off his bike last year it seemed like forever for someone to respond. And this was on Ironpoint. There was a recent fire administrator that determined that there wasn't enough fires in the empire ranch area to justify the building of the station in that area despite all of the money that was spent to prove that there was a need.... Don't blame the firefighters or their union.

And four minute or six minutes or 10 minutes is not that bad! Six minutes to get to a site when you are driving by and it takes you 4? What about suit up time, getting out of the driveway (besides intersections, probably the most hazardous part of responding to a fire).
Six minutes to navigate through those hilly roads, and past a school and several slow traffic areas to get to empire ranch from the corner of oak and blue ravine. I dont think the response time is horrible.

7 1/2 mins is a long response!! Fact, When we Firefighters see smoke from a distance, 99% of the drivers drive alittle faster and everyones heart gets going alittle faster. Fact, it takes more the one engine and 3 firefighter to put out a house fire. A first alarm is 3 engines a truck and one or two chiefs. Fact, if that was a nonbreather or a Cardiac arrest call, they are DEAD unless someone steps in and gives mouth to mouth or CPR. Are you up for that? I dont see many people doing CPR on arrival of Cardiac Arrests and CPR saves lives. This has nothing to do with unions, pension or any other "issues" I can tell you 100% that We NEVER slow down a response to a call to "make a point" We are here to save lives and many have given there lives- Secs can matter.
Yes builders are sometimes required to set aside land and builded new fire stations but, The City has to staff and provide the equipment for that station. FYI there is a site near Vista High School set for a fire station. I was told that the City has not hired any new firefighters for sometime and has to use overtime firefighter to meet min. staffing. O.T is cheaper then hiring to a point. Firefighter are paid by the hour so yes we do make more with O.T. but we have to put in the time. We also get Mandated to stay do to staffing. We never close we are a 24/7 operation. Ever been force to work and miss family events that have been planned months in advance? I have(its part of the job but still sucks) The city of Folsom runs 2 paramedic Ambulances 24/7. They are busy and make the city cash by billing for service.
I was told that the city is thinking about cutting one of the Ambulances if they have to hire back 2 medics to staff it(O.T) This will place the people of Folsom at risk!!!
I have nothing to gain by pointing these facts out they are facts nothing more. As a home owner in Folsom,I want to keep the Police and Fire Dept strong and able to to its job. These men and women save lives and protect my family while I am away and they do the same for you!
play safe and fun

A BIG THANK YOU for helping educate some of us! 7 minutes and 35 seconds response time is UNACCEPTABLE!
Our firefighters do an OUTSTANDING job and its a darn shame that anyone would cast any aspersions about their motives to save lives!
The Firefighters and their union didn't put the city of Folsom in this predicament! It was THOSE who vote to define the policies of the City! They decided to spend tax dollars on getting the SOI & Annexation and development of S50 OVER staffing another Fire Station!
The City Council has so mismanaged this City and now its getting more and more obvious to everyone....Everyone who is openminded and doesn't allow political parties or personal friendships cloud their ability to focus on results!
I'm begging all of you.....open your eyes to what is happening to your community, before its TOO late!

I Googled response times, not hard to do for a much larger city to compare.
If LA with all their traffic can beat our times by that much, there's a problem.

You will have to ask city council members why they never followed through with the plan.

Oh, well. That's easy. They were out hunting phantom drunk council members running over skateboarding kids, chasing down firemen and telling them to sabotage the lives and homes of folsom residents, or perhaps subverting RFI memos, and making ghost money on land development fees that should benefit the tax payers, selling library books without notice to the public, bullying mexican restaurants into replacing signs.....

If you take the time and ask someone in the fire admin or from city hall I'm sure you could get the service delivery plan and citygate report that was approved by the council a few years back. It was comprehensive on where firestations should be built. Thousands of $$$ were spent on a consultant company to determine where stations should be built based on street designs, speed limits and the city adopted required response times.
You will have to ask city council members why they never followed through with the plan.
The reason is rather obvious, the council has been spending more money than what has been coming in and there aren't any funds left to pay for the staffing at this new fire station! The city had a 16 million dollar surplus and now its down to less than $2 million dollar surplus in a relatively short time!
Do you remember when the City relocated a couple of fire stations, spending big dollars on 2 new stations and declaring by doing this they would NOT have to build that 5th station?
