I have had two different friends come to visit from two different bay area towns and another one from Sacramento. They all commented (without my prompting) that they noticed that as soon as they got off the freeway in Folsom that everybody was driving extremely fast here. I think its the wide roads and modest traffic. So many people have moved here from the east bay and San Jose area that when they see they have room to drive, they think they need to speed. You really don't need to go faster just because you can.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Now this is a silly notion becuase we know kids can't afford to pay tickets, only Soccer Moms and people on their way to work can.

Which is exactly why my kids will be paying for their insurance (or however much mine increases when they are added) and for any tickets they might get.

Ive heard people say Trap, I say its only a trap if youre speeding. Another scary area is on the bottom of Serpa and Broadstone, that 3 way stop before Vista High. I wait for our son there after school at times and Im shocked at the number of drivers who speed thru while students are still walking in the Ped Xing, Im surprized but relieved no student has ever been hit by a car. I do see officers parked there from time to time..

Do you remember being a teenager? Part time minimum wage fast food salary won't even pay for gas much less car or insurance.

My teens managed it, but both of them worked jobs where they earned tips on top of minimum wage. They also paid for their own cell phones.

Ditto. I dislike the term "speed trap." What we have here are law enforcement officers who are doing their job to catch people who drive in a dangerous manner. There are several areas in Folsom where people think it's okay to drive as if they're on the freeway. I welcome this policing and would never think to get online to warn others (just one woman's opinion); maybe (a girl can dream) getting ticket will serve as disincentive to drive recklessly in the future.

Do you mean like as in most neighborhoods? Still can't understand why people need to blow through residential areas at 40mph, usually with a cell phone up to their ear, not paying attention to what's going on around them. But when they get a ticket, the usual response is 'don't cops have something better to do than look for ticket revenue'?

Exactly. Many race through neighborhoods, but on main streets like Oak Avenue Parkway cars can frequently be seen going 60+ mph and running red lights.

This post is only for Speeders. If you don't speed this changes nothing.

My only wish they'd also get the bicyclists blowing the red lights and stop signs in that area as well at 40 MPH +

Maybe you need to invert the problem.

The downhill adds to the speeding so that the speeding is not just high it is extreme. Maybe that's why the cops are there.

I've seen people doing at least 70 in both locations.

(Braking is harder in those circumstances, making it more dangerous for a given speed.)

75-80 easy from a stop going uphill.j/k but you are right.

Exceeding the speed limit especially on city roads vs. a freeway or highway is not ok (nor is driving 10 mph under the limit either). If you cannot stay within the speed limit coming down Costco hill, need to use your brakes and drop a gear.

Better yet, make it a habit to drive the speed limit and stop for red lights and stop signs all the time and you won't need to worry : )
.

My boss grew up on one of the large properties on Santa Juanita behind what is now Vic's. According to him, Folsom used to have "revenue" days where a police officer would sit on Sutter Street waiting for people to drive up the hill on Riley when it had a stop sign @ Sutter. He would pull over almost everyone with a manual transmission, much more common then, when they tried to stop at that sign. Not the easiest thing to do with the old clutches without rolling.

Pull them over for what? Rolling downhill?

I was pulled over about four years ago . . . I was just coasting down rather than pushing on the accelerator, but I was going too fast. I was blessed to get a fix it ticket for not having a front license plate. Honestly I am very careful going down that hill as well as the rest of the streets in Folsom now. I appreciated not getting cited and an expensive ticket then. Now I couldn't afford to pay for the damage a speeding ticket would require!

Just came through the intersection from Costco at 745, and saw the motorcycle cop with radar gun pointing up the hill, and cars pulled over by 2nd MC cop below him on Iron Point. Beware!!

Exactly!! Apparently most of those who have responded obey all the traffic laws, so of course you don't consider this a "trap."

I'm sure by 830 the cops had moved on to greener pastures. I don't have a problem with them being there, or anywhere else.

Twice a day I deal with speeders coming down that hill as I'm making a right hand turn from Cavitt onto Iron Point, and getting into the left turn lane. It's downright crazy at times. And is an major accident waiting to happen.

Yeah, that's a really steep hill, and one can build up a lot of speed without adding acceleration. Sounds like you had enough of a scare to influence you to drive carefully...and before someone misinterprets that, I don't mean to out smart the cops, but to drive with care (aka following the rules).

Sometimes seeing the cop with his radar gun is enough of a wake up call for some people to change their behavior. That's one of the reasons, I think, having a police presence on the streets is a good thing. Folsom has long held the reputation of being tough on speeders, especially around the freeway entry points, and the freeway itself. When I used to commute from East Sac to EDH, there were always more cops in the Folsom area of Hwy 50 then the entire rest of the freeway all the way to 65th St.
