no matter what, I think what upsets me the most is that the officer was assaulted by a bystander. what kind of society are we living in?
I wonder whether the "bystander" was one of the attackers who took off when the officer arrived.

Really? At Thursday night's candidate forum Jeff Starsky said crime in Folsom was down 14%. Since you work for the city, do you know where those numbers are from? Starsky doesn't answer email, so it's not like I can ask him.I don't need to ask them. I've been in places where we've needed them and we've gotten one, but the second one was rather far off. Contrary to popular belief, the city is getting busier. There is more crime being committed. There are more violent acts being played out in our 'perfect little city' on a daily basis that you might not be privy to. Not only is call volume up, but so are the length of time spent on calls. It's a fact....you can't cut the forces and then expect the same levels of service.

Didn't he say he something like " he talked with the COP today and they just updated the crime numbers and they went down 14%"Really? Amazing, the City updates its yearly crime statistics on the day of Starsky's Candidates forum....HA!
Did you notice how Ernie NEVER made any comment? Wouldn't Ernie ( and all the council members) get those numbers as well or is Starsky "allegedly" getting more information than the rest of the Council members? If Crime went down 14% like Starsky si claiming Obvisouly Ernie would be confirming this and taking credit for it happening on his watch as well.....but he didn't say ANYTHING!
IF anyone is gullible enough to believe that the City of Folsom "updates its yearly crime numbers on 10-25 and Starsky is privy to getting these numbers before other council members.....then I know someone who can sell you some shares of the Rainbow bridge that you might want to invest in!

I believe what you say but would like to point out Starsky was quoted on Friday saying new statistics are in that crime is down.
...I take your story !

I read that this morning on my facebook page. I can't believe the lack of respect for the law. That is scary indeed.
Respect for people in general, law enforcement shouldn't be the only people not exposed to random acts of being sprayed with stuff.

I don't think what I said that cops shouldn't be the only ones treated with respect, but I think they should absolutely be treated with more respect. Police officers are symbols of authority and they are the ones that keep us safe. Its one thing for members of the general public to be spraying each other with mace, but taking out a police officer trying to do their job, that's a whole other level of chaos.

Completely agree! The inbred neanderthal animal that cannot respect the law will never respect any humans.I don't think what I said that cops shouldn't be the only ones treated with respect, but I think they should absolutely be treated with more respect. Low life's who are incapable of respecting the law need to be put in cages to protect the rest of society

I think its equally bad whether or not the person being sprayed is wearing a uniform.

There is another take on this situation in the historic Sutter street area.
As of two + years ago, before the steakhouse building was constructed, there were already dozens of
alcohol sales licenses on these couple blocks.
It's deliberately all about alcohol down there -- like an official council policy.
That crowd of music outside is all about alcohol too -- although we don't know whose alcohol sales licenses were utilized for selling liquor on public property.
We also don't know who reaped the profits from alcohol sales on public property --
just as we don't know why this area is all about attracting people from as far as the Bay Area to do their drinking.
The police know this is a bad situation. It is terrible they have to wade in to address drunk driving, drunk walking, pissing, swearing, fighting, theft, macing, etc.

I still have to disagree. It's about civil order. Sort of like this: if kids are hitting each other in a classroom, that's entirely different than if a teacher tries to break it up and they hit the teacher too. We have to have a higher respect for a law officer doing his duty, otherwise civil obedience breaks down and none of us are safe.

I like your analogy.
