To further clarify, the politics discussion is alienating many, many, MANY people from posting here. I love discussion, but many regulars aren't here anymore because of political rants. It's not why I created this site, and yes, we kick people out when they become a problem. Sometimes without warning. It can be flippant, yes, but I frankly don't have time to play the moderating game and watch people push the envelope.

Isn't that why you have moderators? If they were truly non biased towards everyone there wouldn't be a problem!

No, there is still a problem. People complain about the moderators no matter what they do. They even blame them for things they don't do. Everything isn't the moderators' fault.

So CW's opinions on things are just fine and Maxines are not..............? I see no difference but one is on the left and the other on the right.... How come one is gone and the other is not....? Oh well, fighting the uphill fight always when you are just to the right of center............. Anybody know how to delete your profile here.......? I think I'm gone. You libs win. All yours. Enjoy the next four years of government and taxation. Think it is bad in 2013, just wait until 2014. Chris

You really see no difference between Maxine and me except the lib label? Wow.

John - Is it time to take the politics section back out of the search? Those of us who enjoy that section can go there and participate, but those who don't won't be bothered with that content.

Maybe, that sounds like a good idea.

The one question I would have about this action is,

Why single out this one person? There has been crap thrown out there by just about everyone in the political section, both sides of the aisle. If you wanted to throw out Maxine, there were plenty of others you could have tossed out as well.

The political section is only a small portion of the problems with this forum.

John, maybe you should advertise the "no politics filter" option.

Politics can be a very passionate and polarizing topic. If one can present their own perspective and also consider the views of others, then it is useful and has value. If most of the posts are those who are so stuck in their view as being the only logically possible one and are unable or incapable of reasoning and considering another's viewpoint then there is no value.

Many here know the difference.......... I will not elaborate and leave it at that, to be civil, and to remain in the "marginal graces" with the powers that be and to not make their moderating job any harder than it already is........ After all, I am a guest here, maybe not wanted, but so far tolerated, just barely.......... I wish to keep it that way for now. And why are we still in "Open Topic"....? Chris

The No Politics filter is simply a bandaid to a bigger problem. I agree with your latter point... My latest tactic is just to remove these individuals.

John - I was thinking, instead of a "no politics" filter, how about a "politics" filter. The default is that the politics section doesn't make it into the search. If a person has the "politics" filter then it will show in the search results.

If your going to remove people, can we have some fun with it? We need Survivor:MyFolsom.com. We can vote off the people.

John is not a liberal, he is a nice guy who created a cool forum for people, in the town he loves, to enjoy. He and his family do an awful lot for the community, much which goes unseen by most, and it is his prerogative to tone down the nastiness. It can't be easy to watch something that you created as a positive thing go so negative. There are plenty of vicious political forums on the Internet for all sides. If you want to go there, then go THERE!

Are you saying John is a conservative? I know that based on his posts, I have no idea which way he leans. Now based on the number of conservative moderators vs liberal moderators, I could conclude he has a liberal bent, but with the limited information I have, I would never pronounce him liberal or conservative or pronounce him non-liberal or non-conservative. I realize there is a high probability that you know him much more personally than I do, so I am very interested in hearing more on what you have to say about his non-liberalness.

I know John well and he's not "a liberal." He's a pretty conservative guy. As for moderators, I think only Steve would aptly fit the "liberal" label.

Labels aren’t important. What difference does it make whether someone is a liberal or conservative? Most of us do not fit neatly into what we have come to think of as the liberal or conservative label. Wouldn’t it make more sense to weigh the value of what is said? When we define someone in terms of his/her ideology, politics, religion or agenda we create a barrier between them and us. I have found that labels allow other people to assume they know everything about the person they labeled. Most of us cannot be accurately described by one word.

I beg to differ, that Steve is the only "liberal" moderator, heck, I think he's the most level headed moderator on this forum. I don't always agree with him, but I rarely find him "going over the top".
