Unions are bad....they always say "it's about public safety...it's about the kids", but we all know it's about the $$$$..

Unions need to be crushed.

Why don't you tell us how you really feel?!!!! :lmaosmiley:

actually the fire union has repetitively given far more concessions in the last 5 years than the other city unions except the parks and rec- from what I have observed. In fact I would go so far as to say that in all the meetings I have gone to, the fire chief and staff have given concessions in the name of city safety in order to keep people staffed.

So, I think that some of the comments above are inexcusable and ignorant.

The reason why I said I wondered if the fire chief signed off on the 1 medic at night is because he is so safety conscious of Folsom. He has my respect. I am not surprised that the fire department is being blamed for these cuts. No one likes pointing fingers at the city administrator whose job it was to maintain contracts, and 10 and 20 year plans and contracts and use tables to estimate taxable income for the city and growth needs.

What we have here, and have had for 3 years, is a lack of understanding by most city residents of the situation we are in. This can not be completely blamed by pensions and unions. In reality, we need to look at the city leadership that hired an administrator who has incompetently given health reports on the city

Just my opinion though

With all the workplace laws in place these days, public sector unions are not necessary anymore...and many of them are corrupt.

Public sector pensions are largely unsustainable, as reported by many, many municipalities/cities/counties/states across the country...and many of them face bankruptcy.

This is not my opinion, it is a fact.

There is a place for unions. Certainly not in the public sector (no necessary adversarial relationship to "management"), but if a private company wants to unionize, it's fine by me....AS LONG AS there is no collusion/extortion/thuggery between unions and employees, employers, government, non-union shops or customers. If they want to compete on a level playing field, go for it. If they want to pressure people to join, bribe politicians to write legislation barring non-union contracts, promote violence on non-union workers, or threaten purchasers of said contracts (all of which is quite common), they can suck it.

Very well said, Joe....Union corruption, greed, and actual violence is out of control.
