Wow, what a fascinating discussions. Not the topic at all, but that there have been so many replies.

The Supreme Court just made several decisions that will change this nation significantly and there is more interest in shopping carts.

While it is important to give thought to the big issues in life, the truth is most of us will never have an impact on whether the 10 Commandments are displayed in courthouses or whether Rehnquist retires during Bush's presidency.

Thus, it is important to find delight and interest in the daily, small things in life.

"The Supreme Court just made several decisions that will change this nation significantly and there is more interest in shopping carts."

This is a leap of logic. Just because I choose to respond to this post and not to political posts doesn't mean I am more interested in shopping carts. I tend to stay away from the political discussions because of the attacks, namecalling, twisting of words and overall negativity I see in that forum. I discuss political issues with friends and acquaintances who are civil and respectful, who truly want to hear each other's opinions, even when we vehemently disagree.

Understand your feelings. I was just trying to put the shopping cart thing in perspective.

I would have been totally tempted to bring the cart to the edge of the lot just to see the wheels lock up. I'm pretty easily entertained.

I hate those locking carts. I was at a Safeway in Monterey with a side door facing the parking lot on one side of the building and and a front door facing the street.

I parked inthe parking lot but left via the front door turning toward the parking lot. Of course my (at the time) two year old son was in the cart, I step one foot out the front door, the wheels lock, my son goes Wham! jerking suddenly(he was in the kiddie seat) and starts screaming.

No sign saying you can't take the cart out the front door or the wheels will lock up. They had to unlock the wheels and carted my groceries out to the car while I carried and tried to console my son.

They were probably afraid I would sue them. I'm not the suing type, but I am the "never shopped at Safeway ever again" type madsmiley.png

ngilbert -- It's too bad they didn't post signs warning you. Glad yoiur son wasn't hurt more.

Some of the carts lock up period. One of the models KartSaver is making lock the wheels in a rotated position so the cart will only go in circles after a certain point.

Ducky: "Understand your feelings. I was just trying to put the shopping cart thing in perspective. "

I'm confused; the comment I was responding to was made by vanderveen -- Ducky, are you and vanderveen one and the same?

I'm sure cvanderveen is totally horrified right now. No, we are definitely not the same. I kind of chimed in though and didn't want bordercollie to think I didn't appreciate the intent of the post.

Ah, I was confused. Still learning the community, and didn't understand the comment.

I was surprised when I saw the sign at Winco. I first encountered those locking carts at the chinese grocery story on 65th street down near Florin. Those folks are probably justified to keep people from stealing carts down there. Not sure why Winco in Folsom needs them. Maybe other Winco stores are in less desirable places and they all have the same carts.

There was an article in the Sacramento Bee about stores in Rancho being fined when their carts go astray and are reports. These stores actually pay "cart wranglers" to find and bring back the carts.
