What is the RUSH ??

Actually the "rush" will be more of an issue as we start paying for water usage. I would guess 2 to 3 minutes of water running to get hot water will be at least 10 gallons worth. Wouldn't want to pay for that much water each time I wanted hot water and it would be unreasonable to bottle all the cool water you run waiting for the hot water.

See, already it's encouraging conservation...

That's why I wish dual flush toilets were more popular. When it's only liquids, it uses half the water of a full flush, but for those times you need the whole shebang, you get more.

Often, too, it's not the amount of water but rather the power of the flush and size of the trap that matters. Cheap toilets stink.

Anyone remember this little ditty from the '70's? "If it's brown, flush it down. If it's yellow, let it mellow." Amazing the things this brain remembers (but, for the life of me I can't remember where I put my keys when I got home today . . . ha ha).

That's a current quote, too, that's used often in our house.

Does the ammonia in urine clean the toilet? That would be a nice plus to the whole mellow yellow thing?

Of course, saving water in Folsom doesn't save most homeowners any money, so there's less incentive to add something like this right now. Once we're all on metered water, saving 10,000 gallons per year could make it easier to justify.

The metered water from San Juan Water District costs 26 cents for each 750 gallons (plus a monthly flat fee), so an additional 10,000 gallons would cost/save... $3.47.

4 lawn sprinklers running full-on at 3 gpm each (covers roughly 45 feet by 45 feet) for 45 minutes, twice a day, three days a week, 40 weeks a year, is... $45/year. Conservation to save money?

Most bathroom faucets flow about 1.5 gallons per minute, up to 2gpm for a shower or tub, possibly 3gpm on a high-flow shower. At the current metered rates in Orangevale/Granite Bay, a penny buys you about 28 gallons of water.
