Decided to take the digital camera outside and see if I could get some shots. A little grainy for the time-elapsed, but I'm happy:

Jagay,

I also tried getting some pictures and none came out as clear as yours. Great job! Any suggestions for the next storm would be greatly appreciated. I've got a Nikon D-70 so I'm mainly trying to find the right exposure combinations.

Thanks

dlutz, go with the longest exposure that doesn't generate grain with the lowest ISO and smallest aperture. Also, use the widest angle possible.

For example, many of my images were 4-second exposures with an fstop of 7.5 and ISO 100 equivalent.

Then, sit there and snap continuously and hope a lightning strike happens during an exposure. It goes without saying that you have to use a tripod.

Great shots Jason.....we turned off all the lights and opened up all the blinds/windows....what a show! Seemed to be right over us according to the Doppler radar.

I blame Gore for this - damn environmentalist.

The storm would of been better if I didn't have to drive around in it at 9:00 at night.

There was a lightning strike IN lembi park and a bunch of games (especially softball, since they have metal bats tongue.gif ) were canceleed. Boy did we have a rush at work banghead.gif The TV satellite got knocked out, too.

How many of you had your computers on during the storm? I waited until it died mostly down...having the computer on during a lightning storm isn't a good idea. All is takes a a power surge (or sometimes outage) and all you data gets wiped out.
The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good you get, you'll never be as good as a wall.

We all loved nature's display last night!! (CourtJester: I'm just logging onto the computer now. My husband always insists that we keep the computers off during lightning storms.)

I enjoy the change of seasons. Perhaps it is due to the years that we lived in LA....Great weather, but monotonous!!

Ahh it was wonderful. The balmy temp and the thunderclapping and lit up skies brought me back to my childhood growing up in Georgia where we had thunderstorms every afternoon for an hour or so.

When lightnings occur during the storm, go under the bed and hide.

love the rain and light show HOWEVER it was to much for my 5 year old lace bark elm. It was my back yard shade tree and the rain combined with all the seeds that appear this time of year on the tree made it too heavy. All od the main branches were on thew ground this morning. What a loss......
