A garbage can is a garbage can is a garbage can no matter what color you paint it. It will always look like crap! Color is not the solution to the problem

So - what in your Humble Opinion- is ?
This is not like keeping a 1972 Pinto on the street- as THIS was mandated by the City-

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

How about the cans not be bright neon blue, bright gray and black? Howabout they make them a nice, earthy tone so if people leave them out they won't look so bad.

I'll take mine in chartreuse. Thank you.

How about cans that come in matching stucco finishes?

Placing them out of sight from the street. Backyard, sideyard, garage, etc. Be creative and find a solution that works for you.

Yes multiple cans were mandated by the city. Parking them in the driveway was NOT. It is an eyesore and brings down our neighborhoods in a big way.

I'm with Sandman. The city is mandated to have this type of program to reduce landfill -- it actually works as intended. So I actually think it is nice that they provide us the three cans. Of course you can do like Chad and others have done -- have the city take them away so that you only have one.

So either, take the three and store them properly or just take one and store it properly. No one likes to see a bunch of garbage cans (or klunker cars or boats, etc) around the neighborhood. As Tessica so wisely said, "get some lattice, people!"

Actually, I have the 3 cans still. I also have several neighbors who don't bother to put the cans away and it does bother me. Unlike some hoods, I know these people have room for them. Judging by their girth and the fact that they're always home, I'm guessing this one neighboor is just too damn lazy to do anything more.

How about someone pass an ordinance telling us how we are each required to be scrutinized by the neighborhood and told how we can and can not use our private property....

Solution:
1 - Move to a neighborhood where they have a HOA and they will enforce cars parked out front, boat storage, garbage cans...ect.

2 - For the rest of the neighborhoods.....keep the city out of acting like an HOA.

Great idea...we have to nip this problem in the bud. I for one think that something should be done on the western side of East Bidwell (commercial centers) before it's too late. As for the residential neighborhoods, if the city would stop rolling over to developers who want to build 1700 sf homes on 2200 sf lots, then the older homes, with prices in the 400k range, would be more appealing and our older, smaller neighborhoods might reflect a little more pride of ownership.

very good idea - I'd like to see the blight thats being discussed.

I must live in a good neighborhood - I never see any cans out cept for pick up day on Fridays. Ours are stored in the side yard behind a fence.

I'll do it this weekend. It mostly afflicts the historic district.

that makes sense - there's not too much yard space (or fences) on those properties

While your at it. I woud suggest that even greater issues regarding the looks of yards be addressed along with this. If the City can say that they dont want to see CITY OWNED cans in sight of the street- they should also crack down hard on anyother unsightly items in the front yard. This includes those that have no clue about landscaping, have 30 palms that havent been trimmed in 20 years, use of tacky cherobs and other gnomes in their yards, any use of Privot bushes or trees, vines growing on the house that have been dead for 5 years or more, any car older than 10 years, tacky blow up holiday figures, Roses that have not been trimmed of dead blooms, all the ugly swamp ( pin) oaks that hold their dead leaves through the entire winter, front doors painted anything but white , black or brown, force all houses to be repainted every 5 years , dead spots in lawns, oh- and anything in the front yard that is not natural- and just bad taste....
City could package the whole thing up and force it on the resedents and we would have a great improvement in the looks of the nieghborhoods. Sure there are other items I have left off..

This is silly for the city to cover their bu tts and then suggest the resident have to pay to keep the street looking nice...

Cheers
Ken

If I go out and do this, it will be to capture images of much more than trash cans, it will be the many houses - and especially aprtment buildings - that are in various states of disrepair.
