They boosted my speed package, so I pay ~$39 a month for reliable 1.5-3.0 MBps down and 256-384Kbps up. Plenty for me. I've done a number of checks at dslreports.com, and it's been pretty consistent.

| That website you cite is out of date, apparently. SBC installed a local CO repeater in Empire Ranch itself, so we have full strength DSL here. I have it (live at the back end of ER), and the speed is very nice and, most importantly to me as a former Comcast Cablemodem customer, RELIABLE! I got the same service and I was also a comcast internet customer for years. The DSL up here is great. To give you and idea I had a small LAN party at my house with about 5 people playing on an internet Battlefield server without any problems.

| Well, if it's a LAN party then your DSL or other Internet service doesn't come into play anyway. |
No everyone was on the LAN but they connected to an internet server vs. a server that was on the LAN. This was only until I got the LAN server running of course.

I agree... I was a @Home --- I mean ATTBI --- I mean Comcast subscriber but got sick of being bounced around and also got tired of constant disconnect...
I ended going wtih SBC's DSL business solution which included static IPs --- That way I didn't need to deal with dynamic IP routing, etc... I can't say that I've had a single disconnect in the 3 years since I switched over and when on cable I had disconnects about once a week for anywhere from 15 mins to 3 days!!

It's always the same thing, they raise the rates, and then they do massive advertising giving you the first 3 months or 6 months at half price, but if you do the math you find that it's still more than what you were paying. I guess they're preying on the uneducated consumer.....

I think I'm at 384 up... It changed at one point, I think it was originally 256 and went to 384, but I'm not sure and haven't ran any speed tests lately.

Hey, Mike, why the heck are you still getting only 1.3mbps? Comcast increased their DL speed months ago. I just checked and I'm (still) getting 3.1mbps (i.e., 3100 kbps). I just don't understand how it's possible your connection is so slow.

Hi Kanda,
I guess this thread is still going from a year ago; anyway you got me wondering why also. The first speed check I did said 1.3 again. Then I went to a few more and got 3 of them about the same one was 2458 down / 239 up. Does that seem right? My experience with Comcast has been pretty good, like I said I'm online several hours a day and can't remember ever going down due to the connection. I just got their DVR and happy with that also, upped to all the movie/premium channels, so with the DVR box and 3 others digital & Internet its like $120 seems OK deal. Running an older 802.1B network and all the machines are using the wireless LAN. I don't think not having a "G" wireless router should come into play with my Internet connection speed, I think even the "B" is plenty fast enough.
The DVR box is pretty nice but I did have to have the first one replaced, they came out the same day. It's also HD but my 60" is not so I'm missing out there. I also picked up one of those Kameloen remotes from Radio Shack very clean and easy to use. My experience with Comcast has been fine. I am curious though as to exactly where I can find out what their doing behind me, by the power lines on East Natomas, its Sat. and these big land movers are right behind my backyard. Thanks,
Mike

2.4 down is certainly more like it. I've found that software firewalls (e.g., ZoneAlarm) can have a significant affect on speed test results. If you're using one, you might try temporarily disabling it to see how much it's affecting your download speed. I still consistently get download speed results in the 3.3 - 3.4 mbps range with DslReports.com tests. I've read that Comcast will again be boosting our download speeds by the end of March (about a 33% increase). I hope that isn't in preparation for another price increase as well.
You're right -- even an 802.1B network should be able to handle 4-5 mbps download speeds with no problems at all.
If you're talking about the E Natoma area near Blue Ravine, there are a couple of threads on that elsewhere. I think there are 3 projects going on: Raley's on the corner, then a Parks & Rec project, and finally the 2nd phase of those condos (Esplanade?) that are currently on the other side of E Natoma.
