The rude drivers and loud Harleys are not the sole propertyof the Historic District alone. I am "tired of" it everywhere.

True, but from what I've seen there are a disproportionate number passing through this area. We have residential streets that see 6,000 plus cars per day, which is pretty unusual in any of the other neighborhoods in town. Bad behavior is bad behavior, no matter where it is. It's just that when you see/hear it 100 times a day it grows particularly tiresome.

Personally, I think it was a mistake for the city to make an extra turn right lane on west-bound Natoma approaching Riley Street. We spent millions to build the new bridge (not so new any more) to relieve traffic on the Rainbow Bridge yet we still direct people heading north out o ftown down through the historic district to get to it. Why encourage that? They should head all the way down Natomas to use the new bridge. And the trafifc coming from the Walmart/East Bidwell area shouldn't go into two lanes south bound just to become one lane again at Riley. This frustrates people and makes them take side streets (through the residential area). It's a tough problem. Historic routes with modern traffic is not going to fit. I think maybe they should be encouraged to divert around......

even more radical thought, make the Rainbow Bridge southbound into Folsom for the historic district only!! no easy through traffic up Riley.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Regarding the gold comment..

That's not too far off from the truth..

I know when they were grading our development, the story goes that the grading contractor made a fortune off the lead (from the shooting range) and gold that was extracted from our site.. I heard he retired off of it.. Urban myth?? Might be, but they don't call it the "Gold Country" for nuthin'

They still pull it from the rivers out here all the time..

When was the land that is now California Hills a shooting range? I don't remember it ever being used for that purpose, but I've only lived here since the mid 80's. Making a fortune from the lead and gold in the land sounds like it has to be a tall tale.

I know it was before the late 80's.. We moved in the third phase in '96, and there were houses there from long before our time. ('88 - '89) It was a shooting club for years, and they made us sign disclosure statements to the fact that it was a range at one point, anthat they wouldn't be liable due to any existing lead still there, etc, etc.. It was also on an old map that I saw that must have been from the 40's. I'll have to see if it's still around. (map/name)

The top foot of the site was pulled off and that';s where the lead/gold was extracted.

Lead is not cheap and if you pull out a few thousand pounds it can be quite lucrative.. I heard it was something like two buckets of gold dust, but not sure if that was accurate..

They say that they only pulled out about 10% of all the gold in "them thar hills" between 1848 and the present with another 90% still out there..

Doesn't bother me at all, gotta get from one place to the other somehow and thats part of the deal you got when you signed up to live off a busy street near Folsom's most popular area.

It wasn't this bad when I moved here almost 10 years ago.

I have seen people purposely drive through the barricades at Mormon and Riley also. Just right over the knock-down thingys.

I kinda like that idea. "Welcome to Folsom - now leave some other way... preferably through the rest of town and spend some more money at the mall!" smile.gif

Can you imagine what this is going to be like when the mall is built?!
