That sounds pretty decent. I think the PFC stores have better food than the Fat's Dim Sun stores.

the coming shopping center, "Paladio". There will also be "Anthology" a Tommy Bahama Store and others on par with them.

Confirmed via the powers that be who run the city.

Maybe it is just me, but I think we have EVERYTHING we need, with the exception of a kaiser birthing center and ER.

NO MORE TRAFFIC!!!!! The reason I moved to Folsom is quickly moving away. I have never been anti-development, but what can I say. Putting a mall on E Bidwell is really going to suck. I prefer going to someone elses neighborhood if I have to go to a mall (which I avoid at all costs). Now we are just going to have another reason for everyone outside of Folsom to come into Folsom. Don't get me started on light rail. Why do we [residents] care about more sales tax revenue? We don't need to build anything else!!! OK, except the new damn, I mean dam bridge.

The reason the mall, Costco and other major shopping spots are located near the freeway is so that customers from out of town can get in, drop their dough, and get out. Yes, we will need sales tax revenue. We may not need to build anything else, but we sure need police, fire, library and other city services.

I wish they understood English.
I wish I could swipe my card without choosing my language.
I wish the self-check-out's moved faster than a snail squashed on the sidewalk. Heck, I wished any line at Walmart did.

(I'll share my WalMart Secret with you, as long as you promise not to use it when I am there)
1) Always park and go in the back door.
2) Unless it is an odd time and the line is short (by the back door), and if you don't have a bunch of stuff, buy it at the sporting-goods counter.
3) Laugh as youwalk past the lemings.
4) Ask yourself why you still shop at a store you hate.

(Helpful WalMart tip #2)
When you are hurting for cash, make yourself feel better by playing the "WalMart game."
My wife and I do this when we have exceptionally slow months. Go through WalMart and try to find one item (just one) that you can't afford (I bet you can't do it - even most teens). I know, you may have to dip into the bank account for a TV, but technically if you wanted it and had poor self-control, you could buy it. Then go home and be thankful you didn't do such a thing and be greatful for the blessings you have.

When I moved (returned) here in 2001, I was shocked when I heard English at Walmart.... never heard it in LA. That lasted about a year.

WinCo.... ever notice that hardly any of the WinCo patrons live here? I have to say, I don't blame any of them for coming, I would go to their neighborhood if they had the only WinCo, can't beat the prices, anywhere. But Folsom, what a strange place for a discount grocery store..... I mean even retail rent is out of control. But I guess when you have a city counsel who doesn't know how to quit, big things keep moving in. Do you think Folsom will be "business-friendly" for long? And I mean business-friendly to the little guy, not the big one with vast amounts of resources.

Which Walmart are you talking about? I've NEVER heard anything but English at Walmart. I was just there last weekend.

As for Winco, I wonder how one can tell that the other customers live outside of Folsom. How does one do that? What gives them away?

Beats me. I wonder what it is about myself that makes me look like I don't live where I do? You know me Steve, enlighten me.

Is it because I actually like Winco? When I moved here in March I didn't think I was going to like Winco because most everything I heard about it on this board was negative, but it's the closest grocer so I checked it out. I love it. The produce selection, fruits especially, isn't that good but the rest of the store is great. Their bulk food section rocks. The prices are unbeatable. I've come to the conclusion that the negative comments tend to stem from racism and/or classism. Just because I live in Folsom doesn't mean that I don't like to save money. Oh, maybe I don't look like I live in Folsom because I actually try to live below my financial means and don't like to spend money unnecessarily? Is that how you this guy judges people? By their outward appearances?

I, too love Winco, also with the exception of most of the produce (particularly the green produce)

My family makes fun of me cause they're 'bel air' people --- snobs wink.gif

Come retirement time, you'll be making fun of them! Bel Air would cost me, say, $25 more per week. That's $1300 per year! Heck, even if it's $50 per month, that savings at 5% compounded interest is almost $30k in 25 years. Let them laugh all they want, right?

In theory, yes, but this 'family member' happens to be hubby so we kind of cancel each other out!

Best I can do is continue to volunteer to do most of the shopping. He admits they're good for a discount store but for meat and produce he much prefers Costco -- and so do I. So as long as I do the 'staple' shopping and we make an occasional trip to Costco, then we can afford a few trips to Bel Air here and there.

I'm all for speciality trips. If Nugget does end up coming out this way, consider me a regular shopper there for certain items. Still cheaper than eating out, I say!

"I wish they understood English.

Interesting...I'm not a historian, but I believe that Mexico is probably saying the same thing about us...We (americans) did kind of bully our way into 'owning' what is now California.

they're thinking....I wish they spoke spanish, and I wish I could swipe my atm card without having to to my language......just like everyone else.

What if the United States (God forbid) became uninhabitable....and we had to go to another country to survive....do you think we would want the hosts of that country to treat us badly? Food for thought....

"Do unto other's...." you know that saying.

....and that's all I have to say about that......

Back to the topic: I wish we had
1) Farmers Market that matches in scale and scope to Denio's in Roseville.
2) Amusement are - kinda a like the Sun N Splash and Golfland in Roseville.

Those are the 2 main reasons why I am forced to go 'out of town'.

Would also love to see SF's Chinese Supermarket in FOlsom. Another reason I go out of Folsom.

Rainforest Cafe would be a good addition to an already impressive repertoire of restaurants.

I love SF market and the other asian markets in South Sac; Vin Phat, Wing Wa and Golden something or another. I was just down that way on Sunday for live crabs and clams.

Also La Superior lives up to its name when it comes to Latino specialties.

Asian markets scare me. We went to one of those hot pot restaurant thingies attached to an asian market in El Cerrito, or somewhere around there. First, I'm glad we didn't get shot on the way in. Second, Mmm.. raw chicken everywhere! I got so sick after eating there. I knew it walking in, too! "Very authentic" said my vietnamese friends.

Rancho Cordova is close enough for me and that experience!

Many of you will probably bash me for saying this, but I can't help myself, I love Dominoes Pizza and I would love to have had one here. The closest one is on Mather Field road, 12 miles away. They won't deliver here because it takes longer than 30 minutes to drive that far on Highway 50!

Actually, it's really their deals I love (Dominoes is ranked 3rd in my Best Pizza category): 2'fer Tuesdays, and '5-5-5' (3 medium pizzas for $5 each). Oh, and I LOVE their Pepperoni Feast pizzas: So much pepperoni, it makes your head spin outa control!

When I discovered how far away they were, I made a formal request with the parent company to place a Dominoes Pizza franchise in Folsom. They replied that they would consider it, after doing some research.

Yeah, research. Gotta love that, now that I'm MOVING! I'll bet NEXT YEAR a Dominoes will just pop up somewhere, maybe next to Best Buy or something. Dang! Timing is everything!

Off topic, for sure, but I've always wondered why Dominos' 5-5-5 isn't called three-for-five.

Sounds like you had an adventure! Most asian markets aren't like Raleys, but they carry stuff you can't get elsewhere, or sell the stuff you can get elsewhere a lot cheaper. The SF market is probably the most Raleys-like. It looks like most supermarkets, clean and tidy, but with a ton of stuff.
