Anyone get their September Visa yet? blahdc, get your August one yet?

Noticed today that the BBB says MFT has "No rating" again. That's wierd considering they now have 142 complaints in the last 12 months (up from 100 just two weeks ago). Many of them were not responded to by MFT.

> Beck's Furniture $600 Scam, Did you fall for it?

Thanks to this thread, no. We found a sectional at Beck's for $1,499. After shopping around, I called Beck's to order it, and they said we'd have to physically come back into the store. OK. In the meantime, we saw their ads for "$500 free groceries." What ho! We were going to buy the sofa anyway, so cool.

But it aroused my curiosity, and I consulted the google, leading me here. Well, this bait-and-switch, 20-month, fine-print BS doesn't sit well anyway, and then to see what shady companies they're fobbing it off on, and the not-our-problem attitude that they appear to have taken got my guard up and made me distrust Beck's in general. What else are trying to pull? But whatever, we were going to buy it before we even heard about so-called "free groceries," so we drove out there this afternoon to buy the sofa and figured we'd just recycle the come-on brochure.

Anyway, a few blocks before getting to Beck's, we passed a store we hadn't seen before and decided to take a quick look, just for the heck of it. As it happens, they had the exact same sectional (Jonathan Louis 'Benson'). After some friendly conversation, they came down to $30 more than Beck's for the same piece. And I happily bought it.

In summary, I fully intended to buy from Beck's and was just blocks from their store but happily gave somebody else more money for the same item, with my wife's blessing, specifically because Beck's low-rent, dishonest promotion made me very uncomfortable doing business with them. I don't mind paying a fair price for a decent product or service, but I hate, hate being ripped off or lied to.

Thank you to some of you here for the head's up. Good luck, guys.

Perhaps you could post the name of the furniture store. I don't need furniture but always like to hear of a store with good customer service. (I have two friends who are looking for furniture!)

FINALLY! I have my (August $35) Visa Check Card in my hands......

Called it in and spent it right away, not sure when I received it as I have been gone since last Wednesday. I really don't feel like doing this for every single Visa card. I checked gasrebate.net this morning and it still says my September rebate was sent but I doubt that is the case. I live less than 30 minutes away from where these are mailed off at and it has been in the "sent" status for over a week. I will send an email into MFT CS today and ask them what the deal is, I have given up trying to solve any issues over the phone with them.

Still a flaky company, RSD and SacDJ can now get back on their high horses for a while even though the September cards should already be here.

Glad to hear it! I agree... Paying a little more is worth it to get better and more honest customer service.

Glad to hear you got something... Not worth the hassle though. I still plan to pursue getting all the money owed to me, but I'm not gonna work so hard for it anymore. Eventually MFT will go out of business (definitely within 20 months) and then I will come knocking on Beck's door again.

Apparently some of the newer people got the following letter mailed to them:

Dear My Free Travel Customer:
My Free Travel has operated a successful travel business for the past twenty-two years. We have successfully helped millions of consumers reach their travel destinations in an efficient and cost-effective manner, and while doing so, we have brought a tremendous amount of happiness to all of our customers during these past twenty-two years. During the last five years, we also implemented a rebate program that has enabled consumers to submit receipts in exchange for Visa Gift Cards that could be used at their discretion.
Unfortunately, a rebate company that also managed rebate programs went out of business, and as a result of them leaving customers stranded, My Free Travel "stepped up to the plate" and offered to replace those "broken" rebate certificates at no cost to the end consumer.
While our intentions were good, we could not have anticipated the unprecedented volume, and as a result, there were many, many more redemptions than we had planned for. This caused infrastructure stresses resulting in our inability to process the receipts as timely as we had promised. Customers had extraordinary wait times and we were delayed on following through on many of the promises we had made.
This letter provides some solutions that we've developed to resolve the problems, about which we feel terrible, but which we want to make right for our customers.
Listed here are three options which you may chose from by emailing us at RebateDelays@MyFreeTravel.com or by mailing this letter to our Marketing Center at PO Box 1494, Plainfield, IL 60544.
Option One: Due to the delays noted above, we cannot accurately predict when your next rebate card will be sent to you, but we hope to send all rebate cards within the next twelve to sixteen weeks. Please note that it may take longer, but if you agree to wait by selecting this option, please do so knowing that you will eventually receive your promised Visa cards, although their delivery will be significantly delayed.
Option Two: View the Lifetime Travel Book to see a copy of our Lifetime Travel Book. This book has a savings of over $15, 000 in travel offers, and is being offered to you at no cost in exchange for forfeiting the balance due on your rebate program. By selecting this option, you understand that your rebate certificate will be voided, and a Lifetime Travel Book, with over $15, 000 in value, will be mailed to you within ten days. The offers in this book do not expire and can be used by you and your family. Offers include 2 for 1 airfare, 2 for 1 cruises, complimentary hotel and resort stays and much more.
Option Three: View the Savings Bucks Book to see a copy of a SavingsBucks Book. This book grants you access to over 120, 000 local & national coupons, plus includes $500 in SavingsBucks that may be used to get steep discounts at 10, 000+ restaurants, over 12, 000 name brand products, plus savings on hotel stays, gift cards, and more. This book is being offered to you at no cost in exchange for forfeiting the balance due on your rebate program. By selecting this option, you understand that your rebate certificate will be voided, and a SavingsBucks Book will be mailed to you within ten days.
My Free Travel is committed to giving you a product that provides you with the kind of value that you expect. Please provide the serial number on your rebate certificate, and tell us which option you select in the section below. Then, email or mail us with that information, so that we can act on the option you have selected.
Sincerely,
My Free Travel

Where did you get this jmreed? This sounds like they are trying to bailout on their terms and conditions so they can't be held up in court. I would be very careful about signing and returning any of this at all. If you do sign it and go with Option 1 you are letting My Free Travel off the hook. They need an option 4: Have $600 wired to your bank account, free of charge within 10 days.

This just makes me laugh, so now they are letting us have the option of turning out $600 into $15,000 potential savings. This company will be filing for Chapter 11 by June of next year.

It doesn't look good for them...

Also, I got another ad for Beck's yesterday. They are still running the ad.

I don't understand what all of the commotion is over... Companies all over the country do this all the time. Cell phone companies, car dealerships, furniture stores, etc.

Honestly, is everyone so naive as to think that there is enough profit on furniture sales that they can afford to just fork over $600? If theat were the case, I'm sure they would just discount the furniture $3-400 and call it good.

Why would the furniture companies discount it themselves when they can have a third party do it for a fraction of the cost?

And no companies all over the country do not do this all of the time. Since you say they are please list some current promotions that are similar to this one. It's nice to know that you have no idea of what is going on in here.

Are you saying that it should be ok for a company to advertise a promotion that is fraudulent and will not be honored just because the consumer should have known it was "too good to be true?"

The entire Chrysler corporation did one like this just last year...

And obviously enough companies do this to keep the companies that sell the vouchers in business.

BTW, I do know exactly what's going on here. People in America LOVE to spend money to save money. "Oh boy honey, check it out! If we go spend $600 at Beck's we will get $600 in groceries back!!!"

How does that even makes sense to anyone that has any? You got taken. Chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Yes and no... Last week I called again to complain about never getting my $25 rebate for September, and the opperator said he appologized for the delay and would make sure that my first $35 rebate would be sent out that day. I tried to correct him, but he hurried me off the phone.

Yesterday I recieved a second $35 gift card. I think they are following the same procedure as BBZ. Send nothing until people complain a lot then just send them the cards they ask for afte a while. Apparently their record keeping needs some work though.

UPDATE: MFT has had 208 complaints to the BBB in the last 12 months (that has more than doubled in two months). 95 of which they did not respond to.
