your French translator is broken, that's not what she said

to Naga, what happened to people being entitled to their opinions as you always say?

Just because you like to promote Folsom Bistro does not make you any more knowledgeable about food then the next person. (oopsie, I took French in High School too)

and besides, the best bistro in town is Bidwell Street Bistro

Merci beaucoup

Today Mylo and I finally checked out Red Robbin to try their burger.

To keep it fair, even though I wanted to try my fav Royal Red Robbin Burger, we agreed to rate their Gourmet Cheeseburger

This is their Famous Original burger. Garnished with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, mayo & Red's pickle relish. You choose your favorite cheese: Cheddar, American, Swiss, Monterey Jack, Bleu, Provolone or Pepper-Jack.

I had mine with provolone cheese and Mylo had cheddar.

Out of a notional 5-step scale of "Bad, Okay, Good, Very Good, Excellent"

Meat: Good (It was good but there were no outstanding flavors)

Cooked: Excellent (this is the only place so far that has gotten medium rare right, preparing it exactly how it should be done right with a bit of pink, not a lot of it) My only gripe was that the hamburger was not very hot when it was brought to us, so I assume it sat for a while before being served.

Bread: Very Good (they have good sesame rolls)

Toppings: Okay (this is the part I really didn't like, their Red's Pickle Relish was too sweet and I didn't like it at all, but that's just my own personal taste)

Fries: Excellent, (these are by far my favorite fries, but that's because I prefer big steak fries to small string fries)

Pickle: plenty included, maybe too much

Tea: n/a

Service: Very Good

Ambiance: Excellent (I know its probably corny but I like all the different photos, posters and pix they have hanging up on the walls)

my personal order of favorites so far... (keep in mind) it's kind of wierd to place a gourmet burger place with classic burger places but here's my take...

folsom bistro
bidwell street bistro
red robbin
big dip
karens bakery
carl's jr

I was at Red Robin on Wed. night for dinner and an Active meeting, and though I didn't have a burger, I did have the fries. I'd rate them middling. I still don't know what the fuss was, anyhow.

I'd say we're almost done, about the only other place I'm interested in trying is Balcony Bistro... unless there are any other suggestions? I'm always open for trying more..

and to be honest, I think Folsom Bistro really won this but its too bad we'll never be able to have it again

Sympathy for those guys, but I'd have given it to BSB. FSB's and Karen's burgers were both more interesting and about the same level of excellent, or would have been without the blue cheese, but BSB had a better overall... cheeseburger experience? rofl.gif

It's not like we're going to run out of places to have a cheeseburger, and there's surely way more than your four favorite bistros. There's plenty of other places been suggested in this thread.

I agree and by default BSB is the winner since the other place is not in biz anymore

yeah I realize there are more then my favorite bistros ya turkey.... that's why I asked for some more suggestions....if you've got some ideas, throw 'em out - you know I'm always open for suggestions

I find it strange that Ruby Tuesday or Islands haven't made the list yet. They're both "burger places" dedicated to such cuisine.

Have you done Islands? Tahoe joe's? How about the "mini's" at Ruby Tuesday (OK, I've had them and they aren't anything special, so you can disregard that suggestion).

Or is it time for a break until IN'nOut opens? and that Habit place?

I would rather be Backpacking

Good question

on Ruby Tuesdays I didn't know they were dedicated to burgers but the one time I went there I tried their mini's and... well, I haven't been back since...

on Islands , the fam and I were just there a few weeks ago, its not bad and hey you get fries now... for some reason tho I dunno why they're not on the list of contenders... maybe that brings us to chains versus unique restaurants? this contest could go on forever d'oh

do we wanna continue or call this done? or wait or ?

When I think Ruby Tuesday, I think Salad bar. It's the main reason I go there.

My son likes their broccoli cheese soup.

The only time I ever ate at Ruby Tuesday they gave me a steak that was made entirely of salt. I'm in no hurry to go back.

Do they have a burger at BJ's?

Islands' fries are tops on my list.

Style magazine picked the Purple Place for favorite burger. Is PP (technically in EDH) within this contest's scope?
