Brett

You are missing my point. I am not accusing 5 Star of doing anything illegal, and in fact, have seen many liquor stores selling porn. My point is that Ms. Teaz is being treated as though: a) They do sell porn, and b) That there is no porn in town and we want to keep it that way. Ms. Teaz doesn't sell porn, but the liquor stores operating in this town for years do. Why no objections to them?

Thanks for the offer on the purple 10 inchers, but I am not after saving Ms. Teaz for my own convenience. Please refer to my post on page 22 explaing why I'm one of the few with the guts to stand up to the lynchmob.

I say give this hard working couple a chance to see if their investment in our community will pay off. I don't care if they sell legal items such as toys, games, leather, etc. I don't have to buy it or go in their back room to look at it.

I could be mistaken but besides gold im sure Folsoms other biggest markets in the early days were

Drugs, We had Indians so we probably had peyote (spelling??).
Bars, Gold Miners are famous drinkers.
Prositution, Single men away from there familys for years.

Lets take Folsom back to its roots!!! jk but a lingerie shop wouln't hurt.

Downtown Folsom has been boring for the last couple hundred years and leave it that way. Yes Tessie!

With all the commotions going on in the city hall meetings, in the news, in the forum, and the owners' being not forthcoming.... there is something fishy going on.... more than just lingerie.

QUOTE(tessieca @ Oct 21 2004, 09:32 PM)
Don't pick on us Catholic girls!  Some PEOPLE are wild and some PEOPLE are prudes, male and female, Catholic, Jewish, etc.

I heard (nope, didn't attend) that at the meeting at city hall, the products that were presented were even worse than what has been represented on this board.

If there's that much porn on the internet, why don't you just go there and leave downtown Folsom to be the family place (even if boring) that it primarily is.

What does the fact that you don't need a sex toy license provide grounds not to have a lingerie shop here in folsom.  Forgive me but I do not see your logic here.  Plus the fact he was talking about the store selling porn mags within site of the candy.

So I guess you would prefer to have drunks in old town instead of people buying lingerie and a few sex toys.

The logic is simple. A liguor store will not sell to kids as inferred in the post. The store's license would be in jeopardy. An adult store has no license to lose thus in my opinion, they may be less selective to whom they sell to thuis the potential for minors to explore their curiosities.

I have no issues with a lingerie store. Victoria's Secret does not offend me. I do have issues with smut. If the store will retail smut then I would prefer they not open here.

In the end, the free market will determine the outcome here.

As for bars selling booze. People have a responsibility to themselves and bar owners also have a responsibility to stop serving those who are clearly intoxicated (Calif law). If idiots drive drunk then they shall suffer the wrath of the law.

Unfortunately, a child was just killed in/near Rocklin being hit by a drunk while riding a bike with his dad.

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." -- Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld

From the dictionary:

Smut:
A particle of dirt.
A smudge made by soot, smoke, or dirt.

Obscenity in speech or writing.
Pornography.

Once again, no one is accusing the liquor store of doing anything illegal. The point is, if you truly are against the existence of smut in this town, and protecting our kids from seeing it, by all means, go after it. There are liquor stores right near the school that sell it, not to minors, but in plain unwrapped view of minors. They can't miss it.

The lingerie store, on the other hand, will not carry smut. In addition to the lingerie, shoes, jewelry and corsets, they will carry adult novelties in a private room in the back of the store, behind a gate, a curtain, and a sign that read '18 and over'.

I agree that the free market should decide whether or not it's a good idea to sell such things in Folsom.

People keep saying, 'if they are selling this' or 'if they are selling that...' I agree. If they are selling crack, guns, porn, etc, I would prefer they not open.

The owners have repeatedly said, however, that they will not be selling porn. Still the mob keeps saying, 'if they are selling this', or 'if they are selling that...'

Has the city council/city attorney found any ordinance or other legal basis to stop the shop? To regulate the contents at all?

There goes my business plan for a Folsom crack, firearms and smut store. It sounded so good on paper too.

Oh well, there's always Rancho Cordova...

You're going straight to crack houses? No medicinal marijuana pharmacy? They have to lift the moratorium sometime! If not, you should also be aware that Rancho Cordova has a similar moratorium. Might have to take your idea to Humboldt -- wait, maybe more supply than demand already. laughcry.gif

No. They are not selling anything illegal, and dedicate less than 25% of their floor space to adult items.

One well placed person in our city government who shall remain nameless (no not the mayor) said, "What the guy should have done was give minmal information about what he was selling, then open his store. No one would have complained. What he should do now is just open without the adult stuff, and add that in later. There is nothing illegal about it"

Instead, they made the mistake of comparing the store to Spartacus, and all heck broke loose.

This is the funniest thread I've ever read here rofl.gif  25 pages for a store that sells underwear and, oh dare I say it...oils laughcry.gif ????  Am I in Utah?  'Wholesome Folsom', heck half the town (myself included) parades around in Lycra during daylight hours near children!  This is just truly a hoot.  Where are these swingers I was reading about earlier?  Profesional, single people who refuse to drive drunk are bored to tears at night in this berg.  This town surely could use a modern day Emma's! specool.gif
Oh NO!  Not panties!!!!! great.gif  wub.gif  whistle.gif

NO KIDDING! C'mon folks! Almost 400 posts and nearly 7000 views...is this becoming some kind of wierd internet fetish for you? Talking about a lingerie shop which I believe (according to Steve) does NOT sell porn (Steve: did I get that right?) for almost 2 weeks now??

The owners are clamming up. The shop is going to be open. If you want, feel free to pick up a sign and protest in front of their store. If blathering on and on and on and on about whether this is ok or a slippery slope to heck makes you feel better or give you a sense that you're really "doing something for the community", feel free to continue posting and posting and posting... while in the meantime, the shop will be open...regardless.

I've had my posts earlier when this was something to be looked into but at this point it's starting to look like a political discussion. Lots of noise but nothing's going to change as a result.

If by boring you mean empty, sure keep it up. If it wasn't for the bars, downtown would be called ghosttown.

I laugh because so many people are complaining about the shop and then sighting sex shops in Sac or Rancho by name and location. Heck, I don't care if the shop goes in or not, but outside of Centerfolds, I couldn't tell you where one sex shop in Sac Co. is. Sounds like a lot of these folks who are bent on keeping this shop out may have a secret lives of their own. What are you afraid that you are going to be tempted to go in the shop and, dear God, your neighbor might see you? Give me a break.

By the way, I would be willing to bet that the majority if not all of the items in the "18 and older" section would be along the lines of games and gag gifts. Gag as in funny not ball and choker. And don't forget the key words "18 and older", meaning adult. Meaning able to make ones own choices legally. If you don't like the shop don't go into it, but don't doom it because it doesn't fall into your religious beliefs of morality. Hypocrisy runs rampant!!!!!

I think you're on to something elvis. I couldn't tell your where any "sex shops" are either.

Something tells me that for a lot of people in this thread, their concern over this shop and their interest in the material are inversely proportional.
