'sigh'...one more time, we aren't talking about adding more of something bad.

Ms. Teaz doesn't sell porn.

And my comment specifically stated I wasn't talking about Ms Teaz, I was referring to that type of argument in general.

Maybe this is more accurate: You can't convince me that I shouldn't be concerned about a person being rude because somewhere else, in an act that I am not aware of, someone was murdered. The fact that B is worse than A, doesn't mean that I can't be concerned about A... which is exactly the argument many people in this thread have used. My answer is, be concerned about both of them then!

Sushi is dangerous to children. Ask an OB/GYN about pregnant women eating raw fish. Or a pediatrician about young children eating raw fish..... smile.gif

I've yet to hear people be outraged by Borders selling porn. Perhaps it's because they have an army of lawyers?

pampChefLady: You posted just what I was thinking.

My 8th-grader often attempts to use the same poor argument with me. "Why shouldn't I be able to do XYZ? Don't you know that "What's His Name" does ABC, which is much worse?".......I think we adults should be able to use more sophisticated arguments than an average 13-year-old.

Additionally, most of us are capable of being concerned about more than one issue at a time.

Yes, where is the outrage at Borders. Also, I previously posted graphic "porn" from the Bible and...silence.

Hmmm.

I still disagree. Displaying porn in front of children is wrong.

Selling adult items, to adults, in the back room of a private business, protected by a curtain, gate, and sign, is not wrong.

So, now that we know the initial reports of them selling porn are incorrect, we must now attack them for selling the other stuff they sell.

I am frequently at Borders and have done a lot of browsing in the store. I've never seen porn there.......Do they also have a "back room?" biggrin.gif

Seriously, where do they display pornographic material? I often let my 13-year-old somewhat freely browse in the store, keeping him just within my peripheral vision.

I hardly think that the metaphorical sensuality you quoted from the Bible could be called porn by anyone. Suggestive, maybe, but if a kid read it, would he/she have any idea what was being referred to? Not likely. Heck, I don't even understand all the analogies...

As for Borders' "porn," what are you all referring to? Not sure what their policies are, but I've never seen anything "graphic" lying about or displayed anywhere near where kids would hang out or be likely to look for it. I also don't think it's of the type that people were objecting to regarding the store in question here back when this thread started.

I know you all want to think we're far-out whackos, but we're just people who believe that there are lines that shouldn't be crossed. You draw the lines in a different spot (if anywhere), but we have the right to fight for our beliefs, just as you do. That we don't/can't fight for everything we want everywhere doesn't mean we don't have the right to speak up sometimes.

OTHER people keep bringing up OTHER stores and such, so I responded to those. I'm pretty sure we're not even talking about this store anymore... In fact, I keep telling myself I'm not going to reply anymore, but they someone says something else to criticize my opinion or thoughts, and I feel compelled to respond.. beaker.gif

For the record. I don't have a problem with a business selling porn, costumes, sex toys whatever, just as long as it is only accessible to adults.

Ok. First off Borders sells Playboy, Penthouse, ect in the magazine rack. They keep the magazines behind the counter and require ID to purchase it. Secondly, they have an erotica section of books that are in the back of the store by the self-help. Biggie? No, but porn is porn and because it is a place that you may frequent does not downplay what it is.

Finally I don't think any of you are far-out..... I understand that you feel that there are lines that have to be drawn and I think that at times this is good. The problem is that many of them are fought for at the sacrifice of other's interests. I read through page after page of people who were so bent about this lingerie shop that it went from a lingerie shop to the smuttiest of smut shops, all while Steve is screaming "they will not sell porn".The thing that irks me is that the facts many times will be twisted to increase the shock factor so a point can be proven regardless of the truth.

There are many people with different religions, and beliefs that reside in the town of Folsom. I think that everybody has to be right to be respected. Lingerie shop with games, oils, whatever, is acceptable as long as it looks presentible and classy. If it looks like a smut shop ( neon, xxx, girls, girls, girls, ect.) sure pitch a B###$. But if not, don't. Porn in a liquor store...... duh. It's a liquor store. If it is uncovered and violates a law or city ordinance, complain. If it doesn't ban your kids from the store. Don't shop there. The store owner has rights too. Like it or not.

Elvis,

you ruined all the fun..... I was going to hang out at Borders to see the stampede of people going in the store to find the porn....now you've told them where it is....

Actually, it's in a lot more places in the store as people take the books, magazines to other sections.

You'll also find full frontal nudity (not sure if everyone considers that porn) in "art" and "photography" magazines, books on human sexuality, etc.
