Elvis,

you ruined all the fun..... I was going to hang out at Borders to see the stampede of people going in the store to find the porn....now you've told them where it is....

Actually, it's in a lot more places in the store as people take the books, magazines to other sections.

You'll also find full frontal nudity (not sure if everyone considers that porn) in "art" and "photography" magazines, books on human sexuality, etc.

Borders!?!? Porn!?!? Rabble Rabble Rabble!!!

I hear that walgreens and rite-aid sell lubricants and condoms -- and do you know where those things end up?!?

Raleys carries "smut" books with sexually-suggestive language -- in arm's reach of babies!

Walmart is selling Sex and the City, the Sport's Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, and Cosmopolitan -- all of which could be considered soft-core pornography!

What ever happened to the "naked in the backyard" threads?

They are even teaching "sex ed" to kids in schools -- with pornographic books showing the male and female genitalia weirdsmiley.gif

And don't forget the naked lady picture on Sutter St.?

How many of your children have cell phones? Did you know they can get porn through WAP smut sites! Let's tear down the cell towers!!! It's our responsibility to keep this town clean and safe for the children.

I even found reproduction described in the encyclopedia. ohmy.gif I suggest removing all R and S volumes immediately!

Now I'm convinced that this deplorable state of morality needs to stop! I thought it was OK to have a lingerie store on Sutter Street. But now, I see how that could horribly affect impressionable people. So, I've decided to dispose of all lingerie around the house. Heck, even though my tighties are white, they don't seem so "pure" all of a sudden. In fact, they make me fell icky.

From now on, it's Commando! hippe.gif

Those of you who are saying, "See, it's just a lingerie shop! What's the big deal?" are really missing the boat. It is obvious that the store was intended to be much more than a lingerie shop with a few bachelor-party novelties. Consider the X-rated business plan (now the owner says, "Business plan? Oh, THAT business plan. That was just a rough draft!" Yeah, right.) Consider the owner's comment, "Lingerie is nice, but sex sells!" Consider the owner's remark that the store most closely resembling Ms.Teaz was Spartacus. (Now the owner says, "Oh, it was a mistake to say that.") Yes, it was, a BIG mistake to reveal his true plans!

Plainly, the owner's original idea was that the lingerie shop was a front for some hard core sex gear. (After all, "sex sells!") Now he has been forced to tone down his plans due to the outcry.

When you walk by the shop and you DON'T see whips, chains, and schoolgirl outfits for pedophiles in the window, you can say a silent thank you to the City Council and to lovefolsom, cybertrano, forumreader, pamperedchef, tessieca, bordercollie, and others who have made clear that sleazy sex shops are not welcome on Sutter St.

I agree...sorta.

If the intent was to display hardcore sex gear in the windows, and the owners have changed their minds because the public outcry, then yes, thanksk to all who came forward to effect change.

On the other hand, if they never intended to, then they were punished for making errors in their PR and business plans.

Another mistake may have been the use of the phrase, 'sex sells'. Sex does sell. That doesn't mean they are selling sex. Sexuality sells things.
Think about that the next time the high school has a fund raising car wash. Ever notice that they always put cute girls in shorts out front holding the car wash signs to get people to pull over? I've always felt that was exploitive and inappropriate, but it gets men to pull over. Sex sells.

Things related to sexuality sells. Ms. Teaz will sell things related to sexuality.

We've always known it was more than a lingerie shop. Some folks have said that even just lingerie is inappropriate for Sutter Street!.

The adult items will be kept in the back room, hidden from plain view.

Nothing at all wrong with that.

Steve, it seems that you are backing them on this. I have a question.

Are they going to have a cash register in the back room so they can pay for the stuff there and put it in a bag before coming out of the back room, or are they going to bring it all out and place it on the counter in front of others and pay for it there???

Let's say they do bring it up to the front register. Is looking at lotions or other novelties any more dangerous that watching somebody buy cigarettes or alcohol at the grocery store?

It might be embarassing to the person purchasing the items. For the nosy people, however, they're already in a lingerie shop. I'm guessing there is going to be sex in their future. So, if they are mature enough to be engaging in sexual intercourse, they can should be able to look at objects related to sex. Just remember, a penis-shaped stapler, lotions, and anything that runs on batteries (if they sold such devices) do not get people pregnant. They merely provide extra enjoyment for mature adults. However, it sounds like people here are more aghast at the prospects of seeing a penis or vagina made of plastic that the real McCoy. Why is it that people are terrified of spiders can see huge plastic spiders at Target during halloween, but when they see an itsy bitsy little thing, they jump and start screaming for someone to kill it?

Children shouldn't even be a part of this discussion. Don't take your children in the store. Don't let your children run free. Teenagers already know about sex -- they're not gonna learn anything new there.

And the whole pedophile angle, let it go. If you really think this shop is going to start cranking out pedophiles, then you've missed the boat on human psychology.

Finally, "fun-loving folsomites" will go get the lingerie and novelty items from on line catalogs, Kiss and Tell, you name it. By trying to eliminate this store front, you are not "purifying" the town. But you are removing much-needed foot traffic on Sutter and local sales-tax dollars.

Cal

I am backing reason and sanity. I would do the same for anyone if I felt there was unreasonable histeria over their business. I am opposed to fearmongering, narrowmindedness, and a small group of people trying to control or restrict free enterprise.

I don't know if they will have or even need to have a register in the back. I am with Jason in that people who go into that shop will not or should not be shocked by what comes out of the back room. Perhaps they can have baskets to carry the stuff in, so no small children or sensitive types will have to see it. But then again, small children and sensitive types should steer clear.

So someone see's a sex game or gag gift. Please tell me what is wrong with that?

I promise no one is going to burst into flames or become a sex driven maniac by seeing the stuff in the backroom.

I am not down with the "over 18" part of the store. I don't like to think that Porn, Dildo's and blow up dolls are available on Sutter Street. Besides, those "over 18" areas are as monitored as those in the video stores. The lingerie available is just a classy front to a porn shop.
