LOL "Folsom? Folsom? Oh yeah! That's that town where parents drive their kids to fistfights."
Phone call from my in-laws in Alabama saying they heard this story on TV in 4, 3, 2 ....

At least it will get people to stop saying, "Folsom? Oh yeah, Folsom Prison."

OK, it's International at least with Canada (BC) but you're going to have to explain Mangalorians to me.

I'll start. It will make me leery to accept gum from a stranger in the future.

I wonder what "facts" will come out...was her son being bullied on an ongoing basis? Where was her husband and/or the boy's father in all this?
I agree she handled it poorly and showed poor judgement.....as a parent her job is to set the example and do the right thing. However, if someone's bullying my kid, on a gut level I'm hoping he/she is going to be able to stand up and set the bully straight...either verbally or physically. Now, I'm surely not going to facilitate a fight and do what she did but emotionally it's going to be an internal struggle!
If a kid is being physically bullied (such a pushing/intimidation, ect) I wouldn't necessarily poo-poo advice from some child experts that say for the kid to fight back.

Our roles/responsibilites as parents are to teach our children to become successful, healthy, productive adults who make good decisions in life. That mother should be teaching her son to speak with the other boys (and of course that probably wouldn't have worked), discuss the issue with staff and administrators, even law enforcement if it were that bad. She should be giving him the skills to identify a problem, come up with some possible solutions and tackle the problem by going down the list of solutions. She should teach that child how to be proactive and make some good decisions. Unfortunately it looks like SHE never learned those skills herself.
I feel sorry for that boy, both boys of course, but for that kid who has been taught some very wrong things.

There it is...I agree...too often bullies have parents that often encourage their behavior..
How many of us watch movies, like History of Violence for example, and when the kid being bully finally stands up and knocks the bully silly, we cheer? I usually don't think...well, he should have gone to the Principal...it's satisfying to seeing someone get what's coming to them...
