Speaking of franchises, I don't like any of the Mexican restaurant chains. Don't care for El Torito, Chevy's, On the border, ... For good Mexican food, you definitely need to find a family owned hidden gem.  I have not been extremely thrilled with any of the Mexican restaurants in the surrounding Sacto area. Carmelita's off of hazel is pretty good.  Anybody have a really good Mexican restaurant in the greater Sacto area?

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in the greater Sacramento area, there was one restaurant on Stockton Blvd. near 21st St called Don Pollo's. I believe it is still there, but it changed names in the last year or two. I can't recall what the new name is, but it is the same restaurant and the same good food. The atmosphere is very casual - you order your food at the counter and they bring it to you when it is done.

Don Pollo's (or whatever it is called now) is located at 5060 Stockton Blvd in Sacramento. great.gif

I love Indian food, but I've been somewhat disappointed with the Indian restaurants in Folsom. I've tried 3 of them, and although they usually seem to be pretty good, they are also somewhat inconsistent:

Taj India
India House
Priya's

My favorite Indian dish is Chicken Makhani, which Taj India (over by the DMV) usually does best, although the standard version served at the buffet is a bit tame. But if you tell them you would like the spicy version, they'll give you a dish of that on the side, but they'll still let you choose everything else from the buffet. Taj India also has the best kheer, in my opinion. India House has the best curry dishes. They're Chicken Makhani is a bit on the sweet side, and tastes more like the Chicken Tikka Masala from Taj India. Priya's is pretty good, but they don't seem to stand out in my mind for any particular dish.

So, of the Indian restaurants I've tried in Folsom, I like Taj India the best, but they haven't been as consistently good as I'd like. It's a little embarassing when I take a friend there for her birthday and it suddenly isn't all I've made it out to be.

Can anyone recommend a good Indian restaurant anywhere near Folsom, Rancho Cordova or Placerville?

Does anyone know if there is a slow time at Gold Miner's Cafe? We'd like to try it, but don't want to be there waiting with like 50 million other people. Are they only open on weekends?

Thanks! :D
