Right on, Darth. Why is there this childish inability and unwillingness to hold people properly accountable for their violent, heinous crimes? Is it the ever-rising softheadization of our society? No wonder the recidivism (yes, it's a word, look it up) rate is so high...nobody is punished properly anymore. Yep, these 'moms' would be screaming bloody murder if it happened to their family, you can bet on that.

Again, Chip, you need some perspective.

As do you. It's ok to see the Jesus in people nearly all the time but now and again common sense needs to prevail.

Perspective??...5-to-10 years in PRISON would likely give those punk thugs some perspective of the preciousness of life. Some of you goo-goo's need to toughen-up.

The collision may not have been intentional, but the decision to drive at speeds and in a manner that risks the lives of others was no accident. They knew that an accident at 90 mph is deadly.

With the scientifically proven fact that the brain of adolescents isn't completely matured to the level where they comprehend the outcomes of their actions, giving this kid a 6 month free ride is a free ride to every kid who may be breaking the law. Since they cannot apply the logic to completely see the potential outcome of their actions, they need to be taught in other ways. He should do much more time and then go on a speaking tour of local schools where he discusses the error of his ways and clearly presents the results: a lost life and a lot of time behind bars.

Does anyone else besides me find it interesting that both vehicular manslaughter cases that happened in Folsom and just came to an end involved students who were all from Bella Vista High School?

They weren't from Folsom.

So while everyone is chanting about folsomj parents giving their kids too much, or folsom drivers creating heinous acts of wanton violence; and others are saying the light rail brings in the undesirables; what I see is a possible sytsyemic issue with ethics, morals and law abiding kids from another city coming into our city and breaking laws.

Huh; guess that blew some of these excuses just right of the water, eh?

Let's not be hypocritical, what percentage of boys speed on occasion. I'm sure some of you have sped in your past. What's the fastest you've gone? Honestly. 65 on the freeway- harhar.
I've done 120. In fact everyone I know has pushed it before, even the very slow and safe types. Is it just the people I know? What's your top speed? #

This argument is so very stupid for so very many reasons.

1. No one is being hypocritical. If we'd all killed someone through reckless driving and were calling for his head, THAT would be hypocritical.

2. The fact that "everyone speeds" does not make this ok.

3. Driving fast on the freeway, while still stupid, is not as dangerous as driving fast on surface streets (everyone's going the same way and moving).

4. Unless you were driving 120 on a completely deserted road with excellent visability where it would be impossible to hit someone, you suck. Stop putting my, my family's, my friends', and my co-workers' lives in danger for your ego.

Has anyone figured out why these nearly 17 1/2 year olds weren't tried as adults?

Oh, I see...speeding is the same as RACING on a surface street. Thanks for that brilliant comparison. And if you're doing 120mph anytime soon, let's hope Darwin takes care of you without hurting anyone else.

Unless you are 18 I do not think you should be tried as an adult...That or lower the age of adulthood...or better yet make all crimes carry the same punishment regardless of age and merge CYA with CDC!!! Yeah doesn't make sense to me either...If you are under 18 when the crime occured you should be tried as a minor!!! Older than, tried as an adult!!!

Speeding or Racing in any measure is dangerous!!! But not always deadly you can die with a person driving 30 miles an hour as well...How about you drive safe for the fricken conditions...and if you can't figure out what that is...then maybe you shouldn't be driving...A vehicle is not a dang joy ride!!!!

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the defense lawyers determine where the people are charged or tried I think that is up to the DA.

I thought in this case there wasn't any offer made for plea bargaining?

Time-out. Can we all please quit equating SPEEDING with RACING. My head's gonna explode if ONE MORE PERSON tries to make that comparison. When I do 70mph on Hwy 50 (and getting passed), I am speeding according to the law...I am NOT racing. GeeZuss KeyRiced.....

The News10.net online story mentions the boy was uninsured. I find that absolutely incredible!
