On my site I try to keep it real and not sugar coat even the stuff that Apple could improve.

By the way you forgot to quote a few key points when you read the 1st article you saw...

All in all I think Leopard is an amazing upgrade for your Mac as long as you don’t jump in blindly and make sure to use some common sense. Does your lively-hood depend on your computer, will your business die if you just don’t have Spaces or Stacks??

In my opinion, Tiger is already way better then Vista and when comparing Leopard to Vista in terms of compatibility and features, Leopard is the clear winner again.

Leopard may not be perfect but it is still the best OS available bar none…

And by the way I DO NOT work for Apple anymore, I am an Apple Consultant specifically for people who have decided that a Mac is a better solution for them than a PC, this does not apply to everyone...

And davburr, how long have you used a Mac for?

There, that's two posts biggrin.gif

I've been seriously considering a Mac when I switch permanently to a laptop sometime in the near future. I used them a lot back in System 6/7 days in jr high and high school and liked them fine. They were sure better than the 386 at home. All I ever do with my PC at home now are things that don't require a specific machine, and like the 2-post guy said, they do look cooler. This sounds frivolous but it's something to consider if you are going to be holding it on your knees in the coffee shop while sipping your crackaccino. Also I want to try the other OS, just to see.

I love my Mac. Used to work on Macs when in the PR and creative industries, and had an old "pizza box" Mac at home, then went to a PC because my husband hadn't ever really used Macs and didn't get it. He went to work for a company owned by Apple and he's been using a Mac for years. We bought our Mac last year and love it. I was even a test-user for Vista and never even turned on the PC once the Mac hit the house, except for using it as extra storage. I have the Intel iMac and my husband has a Macbook pro. We love 'em both.

Fewer problems, no worries about viruses and the like. Won't go back.

Mac IIci was one of the best computers ever made!

+100000

The Mac IIci is definitely the very best hardware/case implementation ever! Plastic case, once screw holding everything together, incredibly easy to work on.

You can actually disassemble the entire thing down to each component in about 30 seconds flat.

I thought switchtoMac was my friend Rob who got me to switch to a Mac. Rob has never posted on this forum but I told him about the topic and he said he wanted to join the conversation. We may here from him here in the near future. I think it's a great debate because I can't believe how much more I truly enjoy working on my Mac since I switched. I can only say if you haven't tried one and your looking at getting a new computer go down to the apple store in arden fair and see a Mac for yourself. You will be truly impressed!

Dave you got to check out the new OSX Leopard you will be impressed, the changes to networking, iChat, Time Machine, Mail, finder, how you look at files is all great.

oh no, I thought that was your screen name, he doesn't own a site he just really believes in Mac and knows why a Mac is such a better investment than a PC. I was saying that I could have seen him logging in as a screen name of switchingtomac or switchtomac, especially after I saw that you only had one post. I will have to checkout your website, I have only used a mac for less than a year but since I switched I bought three other macs for our business, an iPhone, Apple Tv, and Apple stock. I believe in the products that apple produces, because they are 100% quality and they have the users interests in mind unlike any other technology company I've seen. I bet that the 97% of the world that doesn't have apple computers is going to start converting more and more in a very rapid fashion.

I talked to Chris from site discovery who works on mac's & PC's and he said that in your comparison Dave for apples to apples (no pun intended) a $2500 iBook would be comparable hardware & added software wise to a $2200 PC laptop. His statement to me was that the companies he has that have converted over to Mac spend so much less in tech support than the companies that stay with PC's. Overall he said that his years of experience has shown that a Mac in the long run is not only more affordable it's more user friendly and it's an all around better investment of your time and money.

I believe that many of the arguments that people make in defense of PC's are for 3 main reasons. One they have never owned & used a Mac recently. The second possible reason is they don't like change and they know how to make their PC's work. The third possible reason is they benefit financially from PC's either in one of the many companies that are involved in the production of a PC from the hardware or software or sales aspect. Many of my friends who work for PC companies or have worked for them in the past give me crap for using a Mac and then when I tell them why I use a Mac they all have said, oh I know your right they're are a lot of benefits to a Mac over a PC.

The two guys that I know that know the Most about computers as a whole, are my friend Rob who works to this day on a Mac & a PC and my friend Chris who is a authorized repair contractor for both PC's & Mac's. I have had extensive conversations with both of them and they both say hands down that Mac is a far superior computer now and will be in the future.

There are three companies I beleive in today and in the future, and these are the only three companies that I have actually invested in as well and that is my business of course the FLB, Poker Tek, (FLB poker Tables) and Apple. I believe you should put your money where your mouth is, which is also a fun fact that these are the only three things I have started a post on biggrin.gif Hey I feel comfortable about talking about things I truly believe in.

Lets keep the thoughts coming I've enjoyed reading all the comments, it's one of the few posts I've read on myfolsom that has pretty much stayed on topic and also hasn't had nasty pointless comments made. I hope that we can get people at least looking into Macs as a alternative to buying a PC and finding out for themselves if it's worth what we've all been debating about!

Maybe you could buy 40 new iMac notebooks to replace the DOS scoring machines?

Dan, well said!

One point I didn't really clearly make was the fact that I'm not trying to convert everyone over to Macs. People that only use their computers for business running Windows PC business applications and Hard core gamer types should probably stick with their PC's. Other then that I don't see any reason why a person would not at least take a hard cold look at a Mac. Sure there will be some relearning involved but at most it might take a few weeks to get really comfortable on a Mac, a small price to pay for the time you will get back in the long run.

Sure Macs only have about a 5% market-share Worldwide, this is unfortunate for the 70% or so of the other computer users who would probably be better off with a Mac rather then their current PC's. That leave 25% or so for the people who really do benefit from using a Windows PC and if you're one of them then happy computing to you...

I knew Darth couldn't resist making a pointless comment after I got done saying it's nice not seeing any pointless comments.

Like I said before if you think the best way to spend over $100k is on a fancier scoring system that does the same thing as ours but with better graphics then it's good your not in business for yourself.

Thanks for the endless abundance of pointless comments Darth

It's good to see your not a Fan Boy. PC's can currently run games a little better than a Mac, Macs aren't bad at games but some PC's are definitely better. I don't game so no loss for me. I do know that if you are a gamer you could run microsoft windows on your Mac and play your games just as fast! Problem solved.
