Maybe it has to do with what type of waffles you make. I make Belgian waffles.

Interesting! The recipe I've used for years calls for baking powder and baking soda. The waffles are darned good and always a big hit. What's the advantage/difference in using yeast?

The yeast recipe came with my waffle iron. Combined with the yeast and beaten egg whites, each waffle is as light as a feather. Plus it produces the nice aroma of bread baking and adds a little tartness to the flavor. I do use the baking powder recipes sometimes. Any homemade waffle, even with Bisquick, is much better than that Eggo stuff.

So.... it looks like no one has checked out this new Waffle Barn?
I'll ask my parents they probably have (they go out to breakfast every morning).

I'd really love to try it out, but I'm still trying to stick out the New Year's resolution thing. All this talk of waffles -- Belgian, chocolate chip, and otherwise -- is killing me. I've only lost 5 out of 15 and my cheat day isn't until Friday. sad.gif

So then--you admit it!!

Chocolate chips do have a place in the scheme of waffles?

Have you ever made stuffed waffles?

I haven't--but I intend on learning that trick--one of these days.

Which reminds me--I haven't had pirogi's or pot stickers in a while.
hmmmm.........

Yeah, you got me. I've never met a chocolate chip I didn't like.

Never heard of stuffed waffles but have had banana-stuffed French toast.

How about pecan waffles with carmelized bananas with a side of either whip cream, sour cream, or cool whip (whatever is handy)? You just roll the bananas in sugar and brown them in a pan with butter. After you take the bananas out you can drizzle some syrup in the pan and pour it over the waffles and bananas with the syrup heated.

Here's a great syrup for buttermilk pancakes:

Boil together while stirring, (steady boil, but not real high. It may foam up but that's okay. Just turn it down a little. Should take about 7 minutes.)

1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 tsp corn syrup
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp vanilla (put in after boiling)

Also, great on ice cream.

Okay. I'll stop now. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but now I'm hungry, can't have waffles, have procrastinated getting work done, and need to go to the gym.

Ever heard of Chicken and Waffles? Very popular in the Southeast. LA has a small chain called Roscoe's.

Mmmm, ever been to "Chicken 'N' Waffles" at 1537 Howe Avenue, near Aden? Fantastic chicken, and the waffles ain't bad either, the collard greens were a little 'meh' though. The waitresses seems to be on crack, and it may seem awkward if you're white, but the food is damn good. I think they support (maybe even hold?) break-dancing classes as well.

I hope to check out our local waffle place this week. I've been waiting months for that darn place to open.

Easy there..Some of us white people have plenty of soul..I always dig soul food. In fact some of my favorite restaurants are soul food shacks. Flowers on Broadway, Elgins BBQ, Rubens. I think the combo of chicken and waffles is to die for. Nothing says "good morning" like a full days worth of calories, two days worth of fat, and a years worth of cholesterol. specool.gif

I love break dancing and all, but chicken, waffles AND break dancing? Hopefully people do not eat and then break dance.

I'll ask my parents they probably have (they go out to breakfast every morning).

We went this a.m. I got one of the waffle combos. It was yummy. They have a huge menu. It's 3 pages for the breakfast section alone, and then has a couple more for lunch options (sandwiches, etc.). It's clean, and the service was good. I got fresh coffee every five minutes or so whether I wanted it or not smile.gif. The furniture still has an Aztec-like design so I think maybe they kept it, but in any event it's clean and in good shape. The sign above the counter has the name Ramon Mora -- was that the Rogelios owner?

Good place if you like a big breakfast. Waffle Combo One (with eggs and sausage) was $5.95.
