My take on it is that we need more storage... lots more .... we haven't built a dam in this state for a long time....

and...

Since I don't believe in the scam called "man made global warming"... this is just another series of dry years....

We're probably due for a really wet year this one coming up... being an old "f*rt" that has lived here for years... we had some dry years in 1991 and 92...and 93 was a big rain year... so we're due...

what I don't want them to do is always anticipate the rainfall... like they did in 2004... when we had wet months and then March came in and nothing again... and all the dam folks could say was "oops... we though more was coming"... in hind sight we should have kept more instead of releasing so much...

and then to make it worse in 2004.. they had that levee break down in the delta and we had to "flush" out the system with guess what... large releases from Folsom lake....

I guess that's we get in the way of "good government"...

No arguments here on a new dam. With the population of our state continuing to skyrocket, we do need more water resources. but there are other alternatives as well. Instead of canals taking so much Northern CA water to SoCal, we should be building de-salination plants to tap into that large body of water called the Pacific. The Saudi's don't get hardly any rainfall, so they have been de-salinizing for years.
I would rather be Backpacking

personally i would rather see speed restrictions than flat out no salmon in the future. all the high sierra lakes are being kept at their current capacity (no releases) right now in anticipation of the low run-off this year. and since last year was below average percipitation by half, and this year being the least rain ever, it's only prudent they do so.

i'm not taking any sides here, but I think this decrease in snow pack in the sierra is just what those damn environmentalists have been warning about. don't blame them for the weather.

It’s the liberals’ lot in life to suffer. My problem with them is that they want us to all suffer with them. There is no need for a water shortage in California; conservatives have offered solutions on many occasions. Most of the snow runoff in California goes out into the ocean. All we need to do is build a dam. But that doesn't involve suffering so its not going to pass the liberal mustard.

well, water is a complicated thing. its not wasted when it runs into the ocean. it keeps fish alive and farmers growing our food. it keeps the salinity of the bay pushed back in the delta far enough that we can have food production in the delta. its not a liberal plot. go check out the water education exhibit at the dam. its a great new facility.

personally I would rather see less development, few new homes that require more and more water. there has to be a limit. growth can not be unlimited. its just a matter of limiting it before we become another los angeles basin.

also, scientists have been determining that for the last 170 years, the west has been experiencing a period of unusual wetness. we may be cycling back into a more normal dry era, what we would consider a drought.

yea... but you are here now... and I was here before you.... so by that logic... how would you reconcile that with the fact that we are growing in population...?

what makes you think you were here before me?

thats really not an issue anyway. the population has grown in folsom because there are new houses for people to move into. if the same number of houses were here now that were here in 1980, our population would be the same. if you build it, they will come. if you don't build new houses, the population of Folsom isn't going to grow. and neither will the demand for more water, more power, more schools, more fire departments, more large roads, more sewage capacity.....

Last night on the news they interviewed a guy from Folsom Marina. The focus of the story is that the slips are closing the first part of July but then he threw out this bomb shell. I just called the marina and they said that somewhere between 375 and 400 they usually have the 5mph speed limit. We're at 425 last I checked and its suppose to be dropping pretty fast.

Does that mean that the old, submerged town of Mormon Island
will be visible again, as it was last year for a few months??

Not a bad lake, but quite a haul from here for a day trip IMO.

Thinking about weekend camping but want to make sure we can ski and wakeboard.

you should head up the hill to sly park. or out to lake camanche. about 45 minute drive to both. camp far west is out off 65 its a bit further but worth the drive. screw the river! its terrible! people pooping and floating all over the place. plus ur kid sounds like a novice wake scooter so he will probably fall a lot and its hard to turn around on the river. plus ill be the first to admit i do a bit of drinkin on the river when im on my boat ssoooooooo....

I was there weekend before last. Lake is fine (as always, there is no dam for the gov't to play with). The only problem is that they require you to get a certificate of muscle inspection. The problem is that I wasn't able to find any place that could issue the certificate. They have a list online but several of the businesses were closed up. Rather than waste my entire time up there driving around looking for a place to do the inspection I just put into the water without the certificate. I spoke with several other people at the dock and they all did the same thing. In theory you could get a several hundred dollar fine though. Personally I wont' go back to Clearlake until they fix this problem.
