Thanks, folsom500. Maybe to assuage my guilt for keeping my potted Japanese maple alive I'll sacrifice two zucchini plants to the water conservation gods.

As you and Darth recommended I just went and checked that and found it and shut off their water - problem solved. Now to leave them a note so they know why their water is not on.
Hey isn't our water here just a flat monthly fee - at least for now anyways?

I wish I did have their number so I could call him - I'm sure he'd come back to his house and fix that asap if he was aware of it - although I'm really surprised nobody at that house noticed the water before they left for work - strange....
I had contemplated going into their side yard and shutting off their sprinklers manually but I that'd be trespassing...
I am embarassed to admit it, but I have gone to work and left my sprinklers on.

I've also left my front yard ones on for hours and not paid attention becuase I was working from on my laptop four hours and too mired in work to even look up.
I would love someone to remind me. :-)
I would love to upgrade to sprinklers that turn on and off automatically, but can't afford it right now. that would be where the city might want to spend a few bucks...
hey! I know, let's write a grant proposal for installling automatic sprinklers for city residents!

Let's not. Why should my tax dollars pay for automatic sprinklers for those too cheap to pay for them on their own.

Because if they don't go there, the goverment ain't gonna give them back!!

Would you rather pay to save water or buy a $25k toilet seat.

Bummer, I don't like my selected days. Can I follow the odd numbered houses instead?
My landscaper comes to our neighborhood on Fridays, I prefer to not water my yard on the days that he mows. Also, why no watering on Monday, but watering is designated for Sat & Sun. I prefer to not water my backyard on the weekends so I don't have to worry about mud when I'm out there. My sprinklers are scheduled for Tues, Thur, Sat in the front and Monday, Wednesday, Friday in the back. I already do my share on saving water, I'm looking forward to when the city is on meters, because then my water wasting neighbors will see their water bill and find religeon when it comes to water conservation. Of course, when my neighbors get religeon, I will be forced to water more. I won't be able to rely on their run-off to water my bushes. I laready had to add drippers to one set of bushes along my back fence. The guy that over-watered and was inadvertently watering my bushes moved and the new people aren't having a sprinkler hitting the fence at all. My bushes almost died before I realized what was going on.

Well, if it worked that way, it wouldn't be so bad, but when guvmint adds another expense to their outgoing cash, they always eventually find a way to increase their tax collection revenue to cover the costs. And as anyone in guvmint knows, you never decrease your budget or spend less than your department was allocated cuz then you will get less next year.
It's a grossly flawed system that destroys any incentive to be efficient.
I would rather not pay the guvmint anything.

Just set your sprinkler to come on just after midnight on Wed morning - or have it come on after 10Pm on Wed. You should be fine.

Bill, it's not always about you, you either set your sprinklers to the days you were directed, or you have to buy costal cohort an automated sprinkler system

Aw, but my home is about me. It's mine, I own it, and I should be able to do as I please with it as long as I'm not causing harm to others or infringing upon their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As I already take measures to save water, I should be left alone.
I even have a water meter, it's just a matter of when the city decides to start reading it in my neighborhood that we will be off the flat rate system. But even when that happens, I will be surprised if my utility bill goes down, I'm sure the city will still have a minimum flat rate + per gallon fee. I just am confident that my bill won't go up as much as my neighbors that are watering part of my yard for me. then there is the guy that hoses out his garage like every other weekend.

What does owning or buying your home have to do with the water restrictions? Doesn't it apply to renters too?
