cripes you can't even start a thread with out instant kerplunking happening almost immediately - it seems pointless anymore and it just makes one become angry instead of educated.

Let me know when the threads get back to their original meaning and contain good info about the candidates instead of smear campaigns and I'll get back into it.

Like he said ...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Yeah, and ironically I lean more twords their own guy - go figure. I just ask a lot of questions and the defensive party lemmings get all pissy.

I used to get a lot out of those threads, learning stuff from both sides (sometimes they even changed my own opinions), I liked it when people would take the time to compose their thoughts and opinions and post them intelligently I even like EDF's stuff sometimes.. - but these days its mostly you know who out there polluting the thread with party bombs and it gets so diluted with hate and anger it loses its original meaning and turns into a rag fest instead of debate

We've gotten a few requests for a custom filter on our forums that will screen out the politics bickering. I've created a new set of permissions for members who don't want to read the politics threads. Just reply in this thread and say you want it and I can add you to this list of users.

John, if you can filter this out, how about my request, a forum only for intelligent folks? (I realize it might end up being just you and I.)

It's comments like this that don't add value to the forum.

An unnecessary slam at many visitors here.

It's at least the second time he's posted a similar comment. I also find his "handle" disturbing for the same reasons, so he just earned himself the 4th one to make my ignore users list.
I would rather be Backpacking

Thanks, Bill...

A co-worker of mine once famously stated "I don't want to read anything I might disagree with". I use this as a lesson for myself in tolerance and seeking to understand others' points of view, and not dismissing them out of hand even if I disagree. That is why I like the Political threads here - there is always something to learn about other's positions that ends up clarifying your own.

That said, I can understand the concern that people new to this board may be shocked by the various exchanges seen on the Political threads, and choose not to participate in the Forums at all. For this reason, I would favor the "opt-in" approach suggested up-thread - as opposed to "opt-out". That way, a new person to the board would not need to know in advance to request being excused from the Political boards, and would reduce the chance of being offended by what is in there.

IMHO, the Political threads serve a useful purpose, for the most part, in discussing current events thru a political lens, and if it gets people thinking about their views and the community at large, that is a good thing. The baiting and trolling I can live without, but can't the moderators manage those a little better?

OK, this one I don't understand John

If people don't want to read Political topics, all they have to do is not click on the them.

Am I missing something?

No you are right all the way. If you don't want to read it, don't open it.. What is so hard about that... Wow... I am sure that someone out there would want other subjects on filters too. So do we have filters for every subject? The election will be over shortly.

Because, as I've pointed out before, even the titles/subtitles of many threads tend to be insulting and inflammatory. I don't even want to see that. If members were capable of intelligent, adult, respectful debate, this wouldn't be an issue. But many are not. It's been great not having to see those threads.

If you don't want it, what is the worry? You have some folks that start several threads daily about the same thing. Now that it's masked, I don't have to scroll through as many looking for the ones I do want to read. To each his own.
