I am glad to hear the Zittel Family will be able to recover the repair costs from SMUD and I'm glad SMUD was immediately forth coming about covering the costs that resulted from their failed equipment.

Ditto on SMUD stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing without making the Zittel family have to go to court.

And as has been tradition for the last 4 years, we will be picking up our pumpkins from the Zittels, I think this year I will be giving them a large tip after they tell me what I owe.
I would rather be Backpacking

I would like to let everyone know that except for two rabbits, our farm animals are all safe and alive after Thursdays fire. We did not have any animals in the barn itself. The barn was remodeled years ago for my office space. For the last few years it has been a home for our property caretakers. We we're blessed that each made it out without injury. The fire moved so fast that they were not able to even put shoes on before vacating.

Thanks to all the wonderful people who have offered thier help, support, and prayers. We will be rebuilding ASAP. The Pumpkin patch will be open September 27, 2008. This will be our Thirty thrird year selling our pumpkins and giving FREE hayrides to the young and old.

I drove by the farm today to take a look. Yes, the barn in back is burnt, but there looks to be not much other damage. The building where they sell pumpkins/ect. is still in tact. And, the white donkey (and 2 cows) were grazing peacefully in the yard. The caretakers apparently have nowhere to live now, but I think the family and farm will survive as well as they were before the fire.

I too am happy to spend a buck or so more to buy locally. Hunting for a pumpkin at Zittel's farm is far more rewarding than doing the same at Safeway. Also, I still can't get over that they don't sell gourds anymore. I saw some growing as I drove past today. Sure, the last few weeks I've noticed that they didn't have their gourd bins out, but I figured they were stocking up for the festival. There is no way that its been a year since they've been selling dried gourds. I guess I'm just in denial.

We stopped growing and selling gourds because of health issues. in 2000 I was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular dystrophy, SBMA. My Father and I heartfully made the decision to close the doors on the Gourd business and focus on the pumpkin patch season. I will miss the many patrons (great friends) who frequented our door step over the years while selling gourds.

It wouldn't be Folsom without pumpkins in the fall at Zittel's Farm!!

Bless you all and best wishes getting back to 100 percent asap!! Thanks for being part of our community. I think Zittels represents what most people moved to Folsom to bring to their lives.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.
