Why on earth would anyone be shocked to get poor service at an IHOP?

It's a place to get consistently quck, cheap, greasy breakfast.

I have to agree and its about the last place in town I'd go to for breakfast when we have so many other better choices such as Sutter Street Grill, Early Toast, Gold Minders, Lake Forrest Cafe, O'brats, Waffle Barn and many more

chain restaurants are never as nice as a good ol' mom and pop place

Now this is not true. They're forced by competition to be pretty good in this fairly ritzy slice of northern CA... overall my experience with such places elsewhere is terrible.

I had the same question. And someone made the point of having something called a Rutti Tutti Fruiti at 2:30AM.

Which begs a different question but I digress. smile.gif

We have 2 in town so someone must like them. I've never been to IHOP, but I have been to some of the good ol' mom and pop places you listed and I don't really think they're that great. Just my opinion.

IHOP has this, so it's worth going

Bacon and Egg Cheeseburger uber alles

Carls Jr. has the "breakfast burger", which is a bacon cheeseburger with an egg AND has browns tucked under the burger. Pretty darn good and quite a belly buster. Also pretty much the most horrifyingly bad food product ever made...by evil geniuses!

Their breakfast burritos are also fairly decent as far as a cheap (~$2.50) fast food burrito goes. And with 51 grams of fat you should stop in at the Sams Club next door for a $4 monthly dose of lipitor and down it in one shot.

Really? Have you tried the bacon at Sutter Street? The biscuits? The.... hmmm, you know, I'm not sure I've ever gotten past the bacon and biscuits. smile.gif

You're right, it's not great like Scala Bistro's Corned Beef Hash. It's not like Brunch at the Fairmont. But for me, it's certainly satisfying.

Do you have any recommendations for breakfast fare? I'd be open to trying a new place?

angry.gif On October 26th we went into IHOP for breakfast. I asked for "hot syrup". Fifteen minutes after our food sat getting cold, our waiter brought the syrup. We had to ask for utensils at this time too. He informed me that "they only serve hot syrup upon request." A request shouldn't take 15 minutes. And we shouldn't have to wait for utensils. The food got cold while we waited. The food was disgusting. When we went to pay and leave, the cashier asked if everything was ok. I said, "No, it was horrible." she said "just a minute," and walked to the back. I was rudely approached by the "manager" Patricia who had a horrible attitude and she explained to me again the reason for not serving hot syrup (due to salmonella). I kept asking if I could just pay and leave. I NEVER asked to speak to the manager, I just wanted to pay and leave, but she kept going on and on. She was raising her voice and making a scene. At one point, I sent my two 10 year olds outside. She immediately put me as the bad person and I was in the wrong. What ever happened to customer satisfaction? The overall breakfast was DISGUSTING.

I tried to follow up on Monday and I spoke with Melisa the Director of Operations for IHOP. I told her what happened and she said she was going to call the IHOP and call me back. I am still waiting for her call. I called and spoke to the owner and he too said he would call me back. I'm still waiting for that call to.

Has anyone else had problems with this IHOP? I can't believe people would treat their customers like this. angry.gif

YESSSSSSSSSS! I will never go there again. The other IHOP serves you warm syrup. That is beside the point though. We had a similar experience except that manager was out sick. The manager on duty was the cook and he didnt know how to cook. It took us 1.5hrs to get our food and the place was empty. I could see him from where we were sitting and he was complaining the entire time about how people were mad and they would just have to wait because there were lots of people out sick. He was actually cussing too. It was a nightmare! Stick with the one on E. Bidwell.

Yeah I know, if it wasnt for the kids really wanting to eat there I would have left a long time ago. And the only reason we eat there is because the kids like it. smile.gif

I do like Early Toast but think it's expensive. We used to go to the Gold Miner but have left disappointed the last few times. SSG is good but my kids don't care for it and I get veto'd. Wasn't impressed with Ernie or Mel's so lately I've been going to either the Purple Place or the golf course.

Simple answer to the Folsom IHOP discussion....IF you must eat at an IHOP, the one on E Bidwell is head and shoulders above the one on Iron Pt. (IMHO)
