QUOTE (The Dude @ Jan 3 2009, 09:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If your kid had Kawasaki disease too could you still honestly say this death would mean nothing to you?

I can't say for sure, but I don't see how a celebrity's child's passing would have any impact on me, even if they shared a condition. What if it was a car accident and I had lost a child to a car accident? Why would it matter?

QUOTE
Maybe you and Chip need to get a heart! A child died and you are rambling on about "pseudo-sympathy"...look in the mirror and you will see issues that need addressing

So by that reasoning you must be in constant mourning for everyone who dies. Someone dies every minute. Are you in perpetual grief or does it make YOU feel better showing others that you "care"? I'm not trying to be an a-hole. You can look through past posts and find similar sentiments from me. I think people get some sort of satisfaction by expressing "remorse" for someone they've never met. It's a strange phenomenon. Certainly it's sad for the Travoltas but for any of us to actually be sad means either you don't care about non-famous people's deaths or you are essentially always sad about every death.

2 days ago a wife lost her husband and son in a plane crash in Chicago. The kid had the flu. Does everybody feel sorry for her?

None of us are being "cold-hearted".

To accuse us of that is dumb, but feel-free to take shots at us.

But be warned: We shoot back !! ohmy.gif

Thanks Lauren- I hope your daughter is okay as well. My friend's son, Ben, is currently stable. Like Mando's son, he just gets regular check-ups for his heart so far. He has an anuerysm that appears to be "self-resolving" (getting smaller on it's own). I guess they rarely start to shrink and then enlarge again, so it could continue to shrink or just stay the same size. He has to take daily aspirin therapies and they have to watch him for signs of distress when he is doing anything active (he's only 3 years old).

Yes, my daugther was on asprin for along time... appx. 2 or 3 months. She sees her cardiologist for echocardiograms regularly... she's stable now. But, the disease has caused a heart murmer. She had just turned 4 when she was diagnosed with it. The effects lasted a long time... she had bloody eyes for about a month and half and the skin on her hands and feet were literally falling off by the chunks.
I've done soooo much research on this disease and there if just very little to no information... i hope (if anything good can come out of such a tradegy) they will fund some research for Kawasakis.

No, thats crazy. Of course I do not have constant mourning for everyone. All I am saying is that YOU go out of your way to say ur not going to care about someone you dont know dying. Someone died. Just leave it alone. Dont call us names and say we have issues. Maybe we just care about fellow human beings...

As we do.

It's just that we don't get teary and weepy over complete strangers.

That's the difference. We also won't be doing the "candlelight vigil and teddy bears", either.

But if you wish to do that, then go bigtime and do it right at Bidwell and Blue Ravine. I'll wave as I drive by. rolleyes.gif

I hope the Travoltas can mourn in private and in peace. If any Travolta family members are reading this, you have my condolences.

I never understood fawning, being emotional over a celebrity divorce\breakup\injury\drunkenness or failure to wear panties event; however it is sad to hear of a child dying or being harmed.

In the least it should make invoke a feeling to value the time you have with loved ones. If it doesn't, get behind the tin man waiting in line for a heart.

It's weird that you insist on continuing to post about how you don't care, if you don't care then why keep posting and bothering people who do care? What's your point? Are you trying to prove you're some kind of tough guy?

You people that don't give a crap about this, just shut up, let the rest of us have our concerns. You don't have to read this. Ignore it and go to another subject.
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Extremely well said sir, I hope mister chipshot can read your post and understand it. My mamma taught me it's not nice to put people down all the time, I should introduce her to chipshot

Some people just can't connect to real people and some do but also feel a connectness to loose affiliations....What's wrong with it? Just because I don't know Tiger Woods, I'm happy for him every time he wins a tourney...
Maybe those posters should get off of their high horse and go suck an egg...
Why go to movies to see strangers act out fictional stories of no historical significance?
ENTERTAINMENT....It evokes, impresses, motivates and maybe even brainwashes you to have an opinion of a certain persuassion...
Having empathy for human suffering whether strangers or not (think Katrina) is universal...Otherwise, what separates us from a pack of dogs, besides our ability to talk and our opposable thumbs???
Americans, don't just come in one color or race.

A few random thoughts -

- Compassion, its not for everyone.
- Anyone with the equipment can be a parent, it takes a lot more to be a good mother or father.
- Grandma used to say, "If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all". This would be a great example of when to apply this logic.
- When I say my prayers each night, I exclude no one (i.e. therefore including everyone)

I just got back from L.A. and have been catching up - this thread just reminds me that some people here never change.... sad.

That was a very good summary and I agree with your grandma - too bad some people here don't get that.

Seriously, I've always wondered why some people need to spout off negatively so often?

I feel sorry for John Travolta, (why? because I am a parent and I care, that's why). What a horrible thing to go thru, I could not imagine any of my kids dying prematurely, it would be the worse thing that could ever happen.

quick note, cvanderveen is actually a good person, and a new parent, and he's a thinker... we may not always agree, but I respect him.

chipshot is another story, he likes to be very negative all the time, I can only assume he's that way because it's his hobby (?) Nobody can really figure out what his deal is.
