When we were visiting family in Rochester, NY, I was impressed with all the ethnic foods. They had great bakeries and ice cream. There was this hole in the wall ice cream place that served huge cones. Then they would smother it with sprinkles. The big thing is Carvel ice cream. Now Bel Air carries their cakes. Umm...how long have they been sitting for?

I grew up in Western New York, and know Carvel's well - especially for their ice cream cakes. Ted's Hot Dogs and Anderson's custard ice cream were my favorites as a kid! We called soft serve "custard ice cream". We also called soda, "pop". I haven't heard some ask for a "pop" in many years. I'm also trying to find a good chicken wing place if anyone has a recommendation....

What is a pop in the east, and a soda in west, is called a 'cold drink', in the south, as in "y'all want a coldrank?"

When I have an itch for pizza, I go to the pizza-all-u-can-eat in Carmichael. The pizza is not too bad. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Carvel was the bomb. We had a Carvel by our home when we lived in Tampa. We'd always get their ice cream cakes for birthdays.

I lived in Germany for about 18 months and had a few strange toppings...hard boiled eggs, shrimp, and bologna top the list. You never knew what you were going to get when you ordered salami, and it would even vary with visits to the same restaurant.

North Beach Pizza in SF and San Mateo rocks. I am looking to forward to Mama Nardi's Ney York Pizzeria, opening near the theatres on Iron Point. It was supposed to open in July, but, last time I called their number, it's been pushed back to October.

I want a droppy, greasy piece of pie.

I hate to admit, but the Costco cheese pizzas aren't too bad.

Yes, in a little town just outside Buffalo. I guess you finally understand why I'm called Billsfan.... smile.gif

I worked at a local pizzarie for 4 years when I was in high school and junior college. The Pizza was OK but the wings were very good. I remember making the pizza dough in our large mixers. Putting together pizza boxes when it wasn't busy.
We used to serve as many wings as pizza. We could cook as many as 100 wings at a time. I really hated cleaning the deep fryers at the end of the night. My parents would often wake up for a late night snack when I got home - since I would bring home any orders that didn't get picked up or that were slightly over cooked.
