Cbs 13 just stated that Folsom Police Officer Evan Fardanesh was really not arrested, he was just sited and realeased to his dad by Folsom officers and given a court date ! Is this total BS or what ! Anyone of us would have been rolled up and hauled off to jail if we were drinking and driving !

Yep, gotta take care of the brothers in the frat! Let's see, in the past 6 months:

1 officer fired for stealing cooking oil

3 others were suspended at around the same time for ??. Seems that one was swept away.

Now a DUI + fight and he's released to his Mommy when John Q Public goes to jail for sure.

Nice. And the cops and ex-cops here wonder why people have some distrust. Is it that hard to figure out?

I've been meaning to look that one up. The news certainly isn't covering it.

I don't think the guy that stole the cooking oil is fired anymore.

And why do you think that?

Jaflaunt gave a lambasting to everybody about how the poor guy lost his job and career and everybody who called for them to, you know, uphold the law was a douchebag because he didn't really steal anything, only transported it. Yep, details.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was back on the force though. Heck, he may have even been the guy on the call to drive the drunk cop home to his Mommy.

The Folsom PD is a mess. They have like 65 officers and all we ever hear is bad news. Why is that?

Actually, this is very common (cite and release to responsible party) in Folsom because transporting arrestees to Sacramento County Jail (downtown Sacramento) takes officers off Folsom streets for a minimum of two hours. Folsom PD has a jail in its basement but there was never any funding for its staffing so choices have to be made and that choice is to cite and release unless there's an overriding reason to transport to Sac. Check out the Folsom Police logs - the majority of dui arrests are cite and release.

I know someone, non-law enforcement, who got a DUI without going to jail. I think, as Terry said, it's not worth it for the Folsom PD.

Although, I do think jail time is a bigger deterrant for many drunk drivers than just being cited and paying fines.

I also have heard of people getting cited and released for DUI that were non law enforcement. I was surprised because I thought a DUI meant being taken to jail. I guess most people don't get their photo on the nightly news or in the paper, but are rather buried in a police log somewhere... maybe. Police logs definitely don't include every incident that happens in town.

Apparently, for it to be news you need to be a politician, celebrity, cop, or, in our recent past, lunch lady at a local middle school.

so do they give a DUI offender a ride home or something? How do they make sure they get home without driving? Just curious.

They usually call family or friends who come pick up the driver and the car gets towed.

this dui thing is a proven money maker for the city. having a policeman transport a guy all the way down town compared to going back on the street and catching another is a no brainer from a business point of view

folsom has lots and lots of honkeytonks and only a few main roads so for the police its like shooting ducks in a barrell

from the numbers they posted this is one phase of the police work that they are really good at

look at it this way..when you are fishing in a place where you have to catch and release you don't get tied up with saving the fish and later the bother of cleaning it. we have a dui catch and release program thats all.
