I only know that when I used to go in and there was a person at the gate, they would charge me for boat and for car, so I am assuming that just having the boat would trigger the boat fee. My kayak is 16 feet long and although its kevlar and fairly light, it would be a bear to carry down those stairs to the picnic area.

I dont know the park rules but as a boater and annual pass holder, I wouldnt expect a kayaker to have to pay the boat\car rates because I think the fee is to cover launch fees, the extra spaces a truck\car and boat trailer are going to take up (2 slots min).

Is Negro Bar the only location you have tried? If not, were the other locations more reasonable (i.e. Rattlesnake Bar, Salmon Falls, Willow Creek)?

willow creek is much cheaper, probably because its not as developed. no boat fee, just a day use fee. rattlesnake bar wanted both, as I recall. Salmon Falls I haven't tried for the kayak. that's a long way to take a boat down to the water and more importantly, that's a long ways UP to the car at the end of a long paddle too. tongue.gif

Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed, Ed,

Tsk, tsk

Does being ultra-conservative mean you don't believe in science either? Are you not aware that we have some of the worst air quality in the region, due to auto exhaust from the Bay Area sitting right under the inversion layer given our elevation and location? Do you not believe that auto exhaust is a bad thing? I know you are smarter than that!

yea.. yea... of course Keri... but you know what... it don't stay very long... we've had these bad air days since time began... when we had forest fires and smoke a hundred years ago... what happened then..? the air just hung here with lots of smoke until it finally blew away...

I just don't want some stinking beaurocrat demanding some stupid reduction in "carbon" that is going to cost so much to comply with...

and that's called "economics"...

tsk tsk tsk...

Ed,

We have those bad air days all winter, at least according to the air quality people, which is why we have those NO BURN days for fireplaces (which I really don't like, since I do not have the ability to switch over to a gas fireplace, as we have no gas at my house). I am not requesting expensive switch overs to reduce carbon footprints (though where cost effective, I most certainly support that), I was simply suggesting that if you live across the street from the place you want to go - that people at least consider walking there, or getting there by some mechanism other than their car!

I think it is fair to say most people understood your comment to be exactly that.

So, back on topic - the Bee said today that the new entrance fee for FL will be $10. The Poppy Passes (which are cheaper than the regular full annual pass) have not had the price updated yet. Just checked the website and it still has 2007 pricing.
