I would think the manager would've been ok with it since it's not the norm...but then again don't they have mice running around?

Macaroni Grill was just fine with it.

At most places, they don't even question it, so you don't need to come up with those elaborate stories. The problem is getting the kids' menu in the first place. My kids order off kids menus, even if they're well over the noted age limit. Nobody has ever said a word.

Just say you had gastric bypass surgery so you can't eat a lot. First they'd just feel sorry for you and you have a damn good reason for wanting the smaller portion. In addition, they would be afraid NOT to let you order from the kids menu for fear of a lawsuit.

Back to the subject....I ate at BJ's yesterday for lunch with a large group of people. I had minestrone soup and a cobb salad. Both were mediocre but everyone else was very pleased with their meals-pizza, hamburger, sandwiches, fish and chips, etc and the beer got rave reviews with our group too. My husband ordered the lettuce wraps which were quite good.

The service was pretty bad but I am going to chalk it up to the opening and the hope that they will get the kinks out.

2+ hour wait tonight at 630 PM (BJs). wound up at macaroni grill and for a change, the food was really good and the service was great.

i've hit bj's on tuesday and friday of last week. very crowded. beer is decent, with some noticeably better than others....of course that is just my opinion. happy hour 4-7 pints are 2.95. that seems cheap to me.

the pizza is great, that's all i have ordered. had the BBQ chicken. have not yet set at a table, have only sat at the bar. i wll be attempting to watch the kings game there tomorrow night (nov 2)....

We went there last night (Tuesday) and ended up at the Macaroni Grill. We had family in from out of town so we had 9 in our group...1 short of being able to make a reservation. The place was packed! There weren't any seats in the bar either.

I had called them ahead of time and they said they weren't busy and it would only be a 15-20 minute wait. Yeah right! Hopefully they will quiet down some or start with call ahead waiting.

I had lunch at the brewhouse on Thursday -and it was pleasant - but we were not in a hurry so we waited at the bar and then were seated -the service was good as was the food and drink
the week before I had a lunch at macroni grill and i was disappointed - the lettuce looked old and the service was so so
and as to getting the smaller meal - why not get the normal size - split it to take home for another meal later
as a single mom that has always worked the economics for me

3 of us went midweek, mid/late afternoon, thinking it may be not so busy. The place was hopping! Couldn't believe how it's packing em in, even around 3pm!

My husband has had food to go there and liked it pretty well so we went back with a friend to try it out. I think they did an amazing job with the "warehouse conversion chic" look, it could fit in nicely in SOMA...so comfortable, fun surroundings.

The service was a bit MUCH for our taste.... Greetings all around when you enter, robotic waiter that we couldn't understand explained the beers, a server who's introduced by name and very friendly/chatty took the order, many various wait staff flutter about refilling this, checking on that and when we left they practically all lined up to say their "merci's" and bid us adieu. I was amazed by the sheer number of people servicing our table. I've seldomed complained about TOO much service at a restaurant, but BJ's holds that distinction, at least during our visit. Some times you'd like to finish a sentance, or swallow a piece of food without someone asking "how you're doing"

Food-wise, it was so-so. Cobb salad was a drab disappointment, chinese chicken salad was better, but both shoved in to overflowing in too small salad bowls. Sandwiches seemed okay, fries were coated or rolled in something and then fried, which was not very good ...haven't tried the pizza which I guess is missing the point from what I've heard as that's their signature dish. Next time. Oh, and the lager they served up that day seemed a little bitter and definitely on the watery side.

A+ for atmosphere
C for food
B for overwhelmingly constant service

We've had dinner there once. I tried to go about a week ago and there was a 2 hour wait! No way!

Today's lunch experience. Lunch for 4. A 6" pizza took 45 minutes to get to the table hot including the first one served cold and sent back to the kitchen.

Does anyone know if they are still real busy? We're planning to meet some friends at BJs next Tuesday evening - but will make other plans if there is commonly a significant wait.

thanks,
