Steve,
RE: City Gym
I am not in favor of the City building a city gym. First off, the city should not be competiting with private business in this area since the city's gym would have an unfair advantage. Secondly, I want to see a priority list of things that the citizens want done. As we get closer to build-out our revenues will decrease and we can't do everything. Thanks for your interest.

= Clearwater, they are talking having an alternating green waste/recyclable pickup. So, you could probably use just store two cans if you are tight on space. Or maybe talk with your neighbor and work something out such that you share cans and keep one apiece. The quoted footprint for three cans was 3'x7'. I'm guessing the city needs to keep the cans the same size to minimize the number of different trucks they have to maintain. -jason. |
3 x 7 is a large portion of a side yard and as a result we will see so many of the ALTERNATE cans then sitting out in street view as there is NO ROOM to put them in MOST yards especially since there is NO INCENTIVE to use them.
I know in many other locations they have a cost down allowance to use a smaller general refuse container if one wishes to use the recycle containers.
A third container for Gerneral recycles of the same size is rediculous. Small bins for weekly pick up have shown to be sufficient in most other cities using them and they only take up 1.5 sq feet.
this program is ill concieved and is still costing us far more than it would if we outsourced our solid waste and recycle program and the city or the contractor could still offer the semi annual clean up day as well as the other programs far more efficiently and at a better price.
Check outside the Box and you will find this to be true.
May the Force ( Kerry / Edwards) be with you...

The CC has a good point that Folsom provides many excellent services such as bi-annual neightborhood cleanups, free HazMat collection, MOWER program, etc... What cities with low rates have comparable programs? |
Several months back I addressed some of the points made in other posts, but I don't have the time to find the old thread. How many of you filled in the surveys that were included with the last City Newsletter? If you noticed, several of the questions related to # of cans, and can size. The current truck fleet can handle smaller capacity cans; that's not a valid excuse for giving us all 3, 90-gallon cans.
Jim, thanks for trying. I knew it was a lost cause (for now), but I appreciate your efforts nonetheless.

Just a quick note to make sure you all read the article in the Sacramento Bee today. It has the details on the new Solid Waste conract that Rancho Cordova signed with BFI. It is an eight year contract with just cost of living increases. Cheaper rates with three neighborhood pickups that you can request with pickup in 48 hours. Also included is a 10% charge on revenues that will give the city of RC about $300,000 a year to add to the general fund. Don't you think we should at least explore this option for the city of Folsom?
