Thanks Pari.

I was beginning to think that I was the only one worried about the possible trauma to the boys who found the body. As an adult, I would be very disturbed to find a decomposed body.....And yes, this was a human life lost. It is not a laughing matter.

Admittedly, I don't have a "morbid sense of humor." I guess that is why I never like the game of "Clue" and the gruesome aspects of Halloween.

I hope the 11 year-old boys are doing okay.

Well I DO have a morbid sense of humor and LOVE Halloween. Yet I cannot comprehend the humor in this thread about finding a partially decomposed dead body. I would probably need therapy if I were the one to have discovered this body. I find it very disturbing that this could happen in our town and so near Briggs Ranch. I grew up in the Bay Area and have lived in L.A. so it's not like I haven't lived in high crime areas, but to find a body not in the river or around the lake were there isn't alot of foot traffic and are ample places to dump a body sight unseen, but in a highly populated very well traversed area shows a major disregard for human life and the law. This is the work of a very dangerous person who is/was too close for my comfort. This is assuming this is a case of foul play/murder.

there is a homeless community in Folsom, isn't it possible one died of natural causes and wandered away or the rest didn't know what to do with them so they left him where they thought it would be found?

I don't know about that, but I always wonder what happened to Jan Scharf whose car was found at the old 24 Hour location in Folsom. She was a nurse whose husband was convicted of murder solely on circumstantial evidence because her remains were never found.

It was around 2002. He committed suicide in prison in 2007 without ever revealing the location of the body.

then I'm pretty sure this body isn't hers, I think after 7 years, you don't find bodies, just bones.

Has there been an update on this, yet?

Sad, really--with the technology we have--that this person still doesn't have a name.

I know, but it's the only missing person in the area I could think of.

Wonder when we'll know who it was.

(Edit. According to The Folsom Telegraph today they believe it's a male in his late 40s. They found identification on the body but won't release the name until they notify next of kin.)

That's good to hear, hopefully the next of kin can find closure with his burial. Any word on forensic discoveries as to probable cause of death?

The Telegraph article said they will be performing an autopsy to find out the cause of death. I forget when they expected the results. My husband took the paper with him so I don't have the article in front of me right now.

News 10 on the internet...

Police identify Folsom body found by boys

FOLSOM, CA - Folsom police have confirmed the identity of a body found by three young boys back in early December.

According to investigators, the body is that of Earl Barrett Jr. 44.

The boys were playing along a hillside in the Briggs Ranch neighborhood in Folsom Dec. 4 when they discovered what looked like a decomposed body, according to police.

The kids said at the time once they realized what it was, "we all yelled 'body' and ran out the back."

According to Folsom Police Department spokesman Officer Jason Browning, Barrett often visited the Briggs Ranch neighborhood. Browning said Barrett's friends described him as a "roamer" who would disappear without notice to travel to Oregon, Nevada, and California.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office said Barrett's body showed no signs of trauma and a cause of death has not been determined.

Folsom police said they will continue to investigate the death.

Browning said Barrett's family told investigators they had not seen or heard from him since September 2009.

Anyone who may have information about this case is urged to call the Folsom Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau at (916) 585-4110 or send an email to crimetip@folsom.ca.us.

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

So is "roamer" a pseudonym for homeless?

Why did he like visiting Briggs Ranch? Friends or Family live here?
or lucrative neighborhood with edible things in the garbage?

I know they have more info than what is released
