interesting visually, but dark movie!! man, its the holidays, what's Disney thinking these days?

A Christmas Carol is dark and you are blaming Disney? huh.gif

I'd rather complain about yet another unneeded version of A Christmas Carol, which is a book I love, but has to be one of the most-filmed stories ever told. There are musicals, Scrooge McDuck, Flintstone, Muppet, Sesame Street, and (imdb claims) Barbie versions, and of course endless straight-ahead renditions starring whichever British superstar is closest to retirement.

SO, my wife and I took in a movie Friday night. A couple of observations:

The popcorn was bland, the serve-yourself butter and popcorn toppings bar just seems wrong and icky. I wonder what it will look like in a few weeks, I can imagine everything getting all sticky, and some teenagers figuring out a way to spray the butter somewhere else besides on the popcorn.

The ticket taker was in a dark hallway and had to move into the foyer to see our tickets. We suggested she get a flashlight and she told us that the other employees had one, so she asked for one but was told no.

I hope the new-car smell fades away soon, nearly everyone who came into our theatre commented on it.

The theatre itself was beautiful, I hope is survives and prospers. We will be back.

well, yeah, I blame Disney. I love the old black and white movie, which to me is classic. Scrooge transforms in the end from a hideous scowling man to someone who's character is changed by his experience just as his appearance is transformed. He is, in otherwords, a friendly looking person in the end, meaning there is hope for everyone to change their attitude, stop chasing money and enjoy life and the human experience. Disney's scrooge was hideous throughout, no real transformation. The Disney version was heavy all the way through, few light or enjoyable moments. I know its basically a ghost story, but I think they were too heavy handed with it. After all, they will probably bring it to countless young people who have zero experience with Dickens and wouldn't ever read the book. The message is a good one, but it should be accessible and when its over, you should feel hopeful and happy, not like you're one step closer to a red burning grave. my two cents. on the other hand, the 3D was way cool, although it distracted from the story itself.

Planet 51 was really sucky. I took 4 girls and I think we laughed maybe once. There was also alot of adult humor that the 10 year olds that I took totally caught onto (completely inappropriate). If I remember correctly, your son is pretty young so he might not catch the adult humor, but the storyline is pretty lame.

My now 11 year old daughter found parts of the Christmas Carol a bit frightening. She saw it twice, but the first time she was a little caught off guard.

Thanks, I guess I won't offer it as a possible weekend activity this weekend and hope he doesn't request it. Maybe i should take him to hollywood video and let him pick out a rental instead.

I probably won't try it out until the new Sherlock Holmes movie comes out. I know this is a dumb question, but what's the Web site to found out what movies are playing at the Palladio 16?

We went on Saturday night and ITA...it was WARM in the theater. It was chilly and rainy out so it's nice it wasn't freezing, but really it was almost TOO hot.

The picture was amazing!

The sound, though, was a huge disappointment. Not the sound from the movie we were seeing, but the sound we could hear from the theater next door! It was a huge distraction. Whenever our movie got quiet you could clearly hear the movie next door. That is NOT ok, esp. when you can easily drop $40 for 2 tickets and food.!

I hope they work out the kinks with the temperature and sound or they will end up losing customers! We will give it another try, though, since things can take time to get up and running.

The mall, though, looks like it will be gorgeous. Hopefully the stores will come soon unsure.gif

I've had noise bleeds that were really bad and annoying at every single theater around. I don't see any way around it unfortunately. Not without turning the sound way down and getting complaints that way.

I agree that it always ruins a movie... but I don't think its any different at Palladio vs others pending which movies are playing by the adjacent theaters at other locations. (tongue twister... sorry)

Solar power? That really does seem futuristic (kinda looks it from the outside pictures I saw too), sounds like you guys got a great theatre. smile.gif
