A Christmas Carol is dark and you are blaming
Disney?

I'd rather complain about yet another unneeded version of A Christmas Carol, which is a book I love, but has to be one of the most-filmed stories ever told. There are musicals, Scrooge McDuck, Flintstone, Muppet, Sesame Street, and (
imdb claims) Barbie versions, and of course endless straight-ahead renditions starring whichever British superstar is closest to retirement.
well, yeah, I blame Disney. I love the old black and white movie, which to me is classic. Scrooge transforms in the end from a hideous scowling man to someone who's character is changed by his experience just as his appearance is transformed. He is, in otherwords, a friendly looking person in the end, meaning there is hope for everyone to change their attitude, stop chasing money and enjoy life and the human experience. Disney's scrooge was hideous throughout, no real transformation. The Disney version was heavy all the way through, few light or enjoyable moments. I know its basically a ghost story, but I think they were too heavy handed with it. After all, they will probably bring it to countless young people who have zero experience with Dickens and wouldn't ever read the book. The message is a good one, but it should be accessible and when its over, you should feel hopeful and happy, not like you're one step closer to a red burning grave. my two cents. on the other hand, the 3D was way cool, although it distracted from the story itself.
