Well HELLO NEIGHBOR!!!!!! From one agnostic atheist, lefty leaning liberal to another!

OK, I'm 1/2 way with ya. I'm one atheist leaning agnostic very morally liberal person.

Then there is my wallet and my guns, and at that point, hold on tight as we hang a hard right.

It is when you get those back handed insults that threads get outta control.

Just look above at the condescending way that EAH spoke to Maxine. Would you really talk to someone like that in real life?

Come on--people--chill out. There is another way to say you are grateful for the politics reprieve.

There is also another way for MaxineR to say she is upset about the politics reprieve, instead of making a condescending post about John and this entire site.

"I really don't care to read about "whining" over life's unavoidables, like dog pop and bad drivers."
- but she'd rather read whining about life's unavoidable politics huh.gif

"I was thinking this was a community forum, set up to be a service to the community....but it's not. It's a forum set up to make money"
- so because she's not getting her political rant fix, this site is now suddenly not about the community... as it has been for years before she came around

"new measures will go into effect to control what is said here."
- in other words she still does not understand the negative effect that people arguing and going off on each other has when viewed by outsiders

"I doubt there will be a political forum here in the future that appeals to me"
- guess what? this site is about Folsom, NOT politics

"how anyone can donate their time and energy to anything set up to make a profit, is frankly, beyond my comprehension. But, I guess there are all kinds.
John....what is your secret?"

- nice slam on all the mods and John and their "kind"

"I think that we have turned a corner on this forum and doubt it will ever be the way it was before. I sensed that when John appointed an administrator. As far as I know there was never one before, and I wondered what it meant when he appointed one. I guess we are finding out."
- nice dig on stevethedad, after all he is a liberal and she is not, so something must be wrong with steve and his "kind"

Kudo's to EAH for saying what needed to be said.

"This site is about Folsom, not politics, get used to that fact. "

I will, as soon as you acknowledge the fact that those of us that pay attention to what is going on in the world beyond our front door (which is frequently political) are also from Folsom.

Like it or not, politics affects our life every day. Some people like to discuss that. What I find troubling is the desire to "take away" something some people like just because you don't. If you don't like to discuss politics, the solution is easy... filter it, or simply don't go there...

Sorry to go off subject here but I am really curious since everyone is saying they are atheist....

Why do atheist celebrate Christmas? Or give presents on Christmas?

Santa Claus/Father Christmas/Kris Kringle et al, the historical winter celebration was secular or paganistic. When the christian church couldn't get the heathens to stop their celebrating, they incorporated the festivities into the church and made it religious (if you can't beat 'em, join 'em), so I can believe in Santa Claus and not believe in God (at least not in the sense the church taught me). In fact, I believe the Bible has it wrong when it says God made man in his own image, I really believe that man made God in his own image as a way to explain what man couldn't understand about the world. I believe if their is a God, it is way different than what the church taught me, note I don't think it even appropriate to describe God as a he or she.

You should try reading up on the history of Christmas if you think Christmas is only about the birth of Jesus (which by the way, most theologians doubt Christ was born in December).

I notice some of you have "No Politics!" listed next to your group name. Isn't that kind of a political statement in itself?

This is John's house and always has been. I don't have a problem with trying to follow his rules, but I don't think I'll be stopping by much if the only discussions available are for atheist liberals who don't want to hear ideas different from their own.

Well, since it seems we can't even talk about the politics forum without getting rancorous, it appears to me that the addicts need a little bit more time without their fix. But this is John's baby and his decision.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news buddy, but Christmas hasn't been about Christ in a loooooong time!!! tongue.gif It's a commercial endeavor meant to sell stuff!!

Okay, that was meant to be totally tongue in cheek.... biggrin.gif

But seriously, I am agnostic and I celebrate Christmas. I sing religious Christmas carols and I even go to the occasional midnight mass. I have compartmalized Christmas into what I want it to be I guess. I have no problem not being religious and celebrating Christmas.

Strangely, with the offset of one person pro politics thread---and two persons anti (that person? Or the Politics thread--not sure it's getting on the verge of mulish, here)

The rest of the commenters seem to be doing just fine.

Comes to my mind these are some of the same person whom derailed one of the last threads in the politics section before it was closed down...

How can anti-politics person derail a political thread so quick?

K--I have a proposal. Lemme take on being the moderator for one of the politics groups. that way--the other moderator only has one section to deal with.

First thing I'll do is ask everyone to be nice!!!!!

wait, wait for it---I know it's coming.........

This may be what you personally believe.

The truth remains what it is and always has been. The gospels are historic fact, recorded by witnesses to the events. The birth of Jesus in Bethelhem was witnessed by shepards, the crucifixion of Jesus was witnessed by hundreds (perhaps thousands) and the resurrected Christ was witnessed by over 500 people.

The greatest thing about this truth is it reveals God's grace to everyone. Even those who presently don't believe may find salvation by believing that Jesus paid the price for them personally and accepting that as the truth in their lives. Every Christian was at one time a non-believer but they have all come to realize what the truth really is.

Now, as far as politics go, just go along with my point of view and the world will be a better place.

Always. For at least 2000 years!

Hi ducky,

I like your inputs on here, but I have to argue with the above label and I know you know the world is more diverse than that. I know at least 2 of the moderators on this forum are anything but atheist liberals (not that you said they were, but the moderation is such the discussions won't be limited to this narrow group). I also know many liberals that are also very religious. I also know there are others like me that have one foot in the atheist liberal camp and the other foot firmly planted in the conservative smaller government lower taxes camp.

Maybe you would prefer to read the true history of christmas from a christian website.

http://www.thercg.org/books/ttooc.html

You can get back to me when you realize Santa Claus and the birth of Christ are really two different things that were only later joined together by the church.
