Well, in a friends house they heard noises coming from their attic, and the attic door looked like it had been partially moved. So, her hubby got smart and grabbed their terrier, threw her up in the attic and said "get!"
The dog came back with three rats.
Just saying......

Really, a weird gravitational event, like a mini black hole formed in the attic sucking the cover up from it's position?
I would be much more inclined to think it was a wind anomaly that caused a sudden drop in airpressure inside the attic causing the air pressure inside the house to push it up. With the stormy windy weather we've had, you can get tornado like eddies and experience localized drops in atmospheric pressure. Something akin to what is called a microburst.

No way would it be a microburst without other neighbors experiencing an event and some external evidence...

It could just be that a butterfly in China flapped its wings which caused your attic vent to skew ever so slightly.
In the immortal words of Jean Paul Sartre, 'Au revoir, gopher'.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

UPDATE: ....still alive
I went up into the attic and checked it out pretty thoroughly, didn't notice anything strange.
I did see that some insulation scattered around the plywood area and on top of the storage bins, it was clean when I was last up there around X-mas.
It has GOT to be something to do with an air pressure/air draft.
I went to Home Depot to find something to secure the attic panel. After a few minutes a HD employee came over and asked me if I needed any help. I told him about my strange problem and asked if he had ever heard of it happening.
I got a blank stare and a ''......uh, .....no".
The HD employee suggested it had to have something to do with the pressure as well.
He suggested to use an eye bolt and hook to secure the panel.

Was it throughout those big storms? A strong wind gust could have done it maybe...
