That's why I buy Iodized Salt, that's the reason they make Iodized Salt.

Actually, the story made the point that iodized salt isn't the answer. You would be putting too much solium into your body just to get the benefits of the added iodine. I think they may have mentioned fish???

Yeah, I am a sunblock smothering, hat and sunglass wearing, anti-sun-fair & freckled lady. I had been tanning since I was 12. I decided to start this current nuttiness after reading many skin cancer cases. I also do not drink much milk with the exception of the last two months or when I was pregnant. I have been feeling this horrible for years. Everything else I was tested for was normal. My doctor told me that this is most likely the primary cause for my issues and many people are VIT D deficient.

I feel a bit better today. I am really taking this seriously and I can't wait to finally feel like my old (younger) self!

So glad you feel better!

I thought the same as Bill Z that you could get enough iodine from your salt. I like fish and eat it occasionally, but worry about mercury from eating too much fish. In fact, when I was pregnant I remember being told to avoid it.

dojgal, glad you found out what it was and that it's a relatively easy fix. You are way too young to have joint problems like that. I have sore joints and have stayed away from milk for decades, but I get plenty of sunshine and I'm pretty sure it comes from refusing to slow down and act my age. I do use vanilla soy milk in my oatmeal in the morning. I just checked the carton and guess what? It has 30 % Vitamin D where the organic whole milk my husband uses say 25%. Go figure.

Soy milk is great, I recommend it. Wish I'd started having it sooner.

Has anyone ever had the feeling where your legs/lower body (calves especially) were generally just kinda sore? As if you've been on your feet all day. I'd progressively been feeling that way more and more. Last year (when I was still working - assuming that's what it really was) I did a search online about it, and the consensus pretty much seemed to be a Vitamin D deficiency.

I think I'd slacked on milk over the years too much. I usually have a couple glasses a day now (not counting cereal) and I feel so much better. Hey it's one thing for me to be nostalgic like an old man lol, but actually feeling physically like one was a pain! wink.gif

I just started to switch to soy and I found that almond milk for me tastes much better. I am not a fan of vanilla! But I still LOVE chocolate soy milk.. It's my desert!

You should have your vitamin d levels checked. You should even start taking (1) vitamin D 2000iu a day. You can be lacking even with a regular milk intake(vitamind d enriched foods/drinks) and regular sun exposure.

Your symptoms are how mine started in 2006 and I thought nothing of it. Fast forward four years later, and I have severe joint pain and muscle pain, random spells of vomiting and the other type of bodily funtion...aka #2, extremely tired even after sleeping 8 hours and moody. I thought I was going thru menopause in my early 20's. Beyond thinking I was a hypocondriac, I really began to worry and searched online for the issues that were occuring. I thought I had every disease and the online searching made me go nuts! Finally I told my doctor enough is enough! I need to find out what is wrong with my body and it's not in my head! After I got the tests back it finally made sense and I now know how to fix the problems!

I don't know a whole lot about it but here are the basics:
  • Blood Type O thrives on a lean, high protein diet.
  • Blood Type A thrives on a primarily vegetarian diet.
  • Blood Type B thrives on a mixed diet of meat, fish and dairy.
  • Blood Type AB thrives on a modified vegetarian diet
.

B's are supposed to avoid chicken.

Thanks, that's actually a good idea, I haven't taken vitamins in years. I'll have to give almond milk a shot too. Ironically they say things that taste better usually aren't as good for you, I'm happy that soy milk seem to be better BOTH ways.

Oh man, that sounds horrible what you had to go through (that'd drive me crazy!)...glad you know what to do about it now.

Somebody mentioned earlier up about PCOS. I wouldn't be surprised if more women have that than are even aware (it's not common knowledge I don't think). I'd never heard of it until 2 years ago, when my ex-girlfriend determined she had it. Her doc put her on certain kind of pills, forget what they're called. Before that I was really worried about her, with all the symptoms but not knowing what was causing it.

BTW I coincidentally found a book about it at Goodwill last year (written in the late 90s) that I sent her, she later gave it to a friend of hers who also has it. I'm pretty sure this is it...if that helps anyone:

I do miss wings from back before I was a veg.

I wonder how much the "secondhand" thing matters - i.e. if you eat meat, how much is it affected by what they ate?

Most meat animals consumed by people are on vegetarian diets. Chickens are fed grains but I'm sure they find bugs to gobble down on occassion.

My hubby was always said he wanted to be a vegetarian. My friend suggested we look into the eating for your blood type. My hubby is an A and he needed to be a vegetarian. For the most part he follows this diet, lost 20ish pounds and feels much better.

I am a B and my diet is nearly impossible to follow. I like most of my foods but the meat selection is hard to follow. I love chicken...even if it's bad for me!

What's pcos?

I avoid drinking dairy-not always but can make me violently ill.

I do eat white cheeses and some cheddar.

Meat-I don't eat.

Once in a while I will crave chicken but lately makes me sick too.

For some reason-even when I did enjoy eating meats-salmon was a no food.

I have to be careful the types of breads I eat-because it can be fattening for someone on such a limited diet. Make me blow up fast. Beans, variations of veggies my main diet.

The doc told me years ago (waay before I was a vegetarian) that I had an iron deficiency. Since I became a veggie eater I don't have to worry about the iron thing. But....here's my funny....I may be a veggie eater but I don't care much for fruits....so, when I crave sweets-I tend to pick up pastries or chocolate.

Ohhh my blood type is b
