why would you be so cynical ?
I know other medical users that also keep track of the legal aspects of the issue.

I know...I do not get this either....I hate when others assume they know everything and pass judgements on a persons life experience. Must be lovely to live in a world in where you make assumptions and cannot trust anyone. I know I can be harsh but I really try to see other's perspectives. I guess it's part of maturing/gaining life experiences, some are slower than others.

SuperMom,
I represent myself. I expect no sympathy from people like you. I have lived my life with the stigma of epilepsy and the conditions that it brings and have still lived a fruitful and productive life. For you to make light of it is frankly insulting.

When I speak to a topic, I actually research the issue at hand. My first question was is this even legal for the city council to do and that led me to this case. I would advise you do the same research before spewing disinformation about “a joint equal to a pack of cigarettes. There was a study that did come to a similar conclusion done in 2008 in New Zealand. The case study population was a whopping 76 patients and it has since been discredited by many other studies. Even the doctor himself says the two are not comparable. Or, show me where a study has been done that Pot causes emphysemia. If you have stats or case studies that bolster your argument, please post them. Otherwise it looks like you are not doing your homework.

Seriously... wtf is wrong with you. Not everything in life is a joke. I have a friend who is a card carrier as well. He has severe stomach problems. He does not smoke, but intakes it through butter. It is the ONLY thing that helps his stomach. I'm all for the "pot shop". What I don't like though, is the shops that have big marijuana leafs on the fronts of the buildings. It makes it hard to tell kids that drugs are bad and good. Too confusing for young ones. Be discrete, the right people will know where and what the shop is.

That should be a requirement on this forum. If you post statistics, you should have to attach actual websites which confirm what you are posting.

BTW she does this a lot, don't let it get to you. She'll try to use this against you in the future if you post something in a completely different catagory, FYI.

My husband is also a medical marijuana patient and he also keeps informed on the laws, rules and regulations surrounding his medications. It's stupid not to. I am glad you found something that improved not only your health but the quality of your life.

I wouldn't mind one in Folsom if it were located in the police department's building. if its all above board, then it shouldn't be an issue with any legal buyers. city should charge taxes on it, like Oakland will do. good parking at the police department too.

the problem I see with the dispensaries is that they are spreading in some neighborhoods to the point of being a nuisance and they often do have a big marijuana leaf on the outside, like a head shop. also, what is with the pot names? its like reading high times magazine. if its medicine, let's treat it like its medicine. those that need it shouldn't mind. we just shouldn't treat it like its a fun perfectly safe toy.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

While on a vehicle stop I came to meet a guy, in his 40's, who had in his possession a well used pot pipe - which I refer to as a 'Hootch-Pipe.' With the discovery of the pipe, he was quick to point out that he was also in possession of...'Theee, Card.' (All the while, quietly praying that this situation was going to go in a positive direction for him, I'm sure...)

Now during my career, I've met vast numbers of folks who indulge in the herb, but it's unique and not very often to run into a person under these circumstances, who is willing to further my education on the job. Not many folks like to openly talk to cops about sensitive subjects. I'm pretty sure it's a trust thing... But, we worked to get beyond that - together - and so I siezed the opportunity (and the pipe, for the time being...), and he was gracious enough to explain how he, and numerous friends of his, obtained the very coveted and sought after, 'Medical Marijuana Card.' (Or, as I refer to as - 'The Mary Jane Passport')

The guy went to a dispensary in North Highlands with a friend, while the friend re-upp'd his 'prescription...' While there and waiting, he browsed a free pamphlet having to do with all things about marijuana. In this informational, he found a discount coupon that would allow him to get a Medical Card for $80.00, rather than the (suggested retail price) regular price of $150.00. So, being such a bargain - he immediately stepped up to the plate.

Now, this is a guy that was just along for the ride with his friend. He openly admitted that he was healthy, with no real medical conditions or complaints (at the time), but enjoyed tokin' hootch to obtain as he said... 'The mellow euphoria, the calming. And it helps (him) to avoid alcohol, so (he) won't get booted out of (his) AA program.' (Yes, he really said that..!)

So he then set off to see 'The Doctor' affiliated with the dispensary, and his visit went well. 'The Doctor' told him that he needed to get an appointment with his own treating physician, get an exam, and obtain a prescription for medication that would be used to treat one or two of the following symptoms, or conditions. He was then provided a list to choose from. Afterall, if it was going to be his ailment, he should have the absolute right to choose which one he wants, right??

He was then told by 'The Doctor,' that once he had that prescription from his physician, come back to see him - BUT, DO NOT FILL THE PRESCRIPTION.

With a plan in place, he then presented to his Physician and complained of experiencing anxiety and depression, and an all over feeling of fatigue. After all, it's pretty difficult - if not impossible - to x-ray, scan, or feel those symptoms in another person while being examined by a (real) Doctor.

Voila....!! A prescription for an anti-anxiety medication was now in hand. Off to see 'The Doctor.'

Back at the Doc's office - a few doors down from the 'pharmacy,' the guy presented the written prescription given by his treating physician. 'The Doctor,' then used the treating physicians prescription (making a copy of it for records...), and the documented exam of his patient under real conditions, and issued to the guy, the coveted 'Medical Marijuana Card,' along with paperwork documenting his medical recommendation (again, based off the actual working Doctors exam and medical prescription..).

Prior to leaving from 'The Doctor,' the practitioner had some very important medical advice that he was mandated to share with his new patient(s). He then advised him.... "Don't drink milk, or eat ice cream, because they come from cows, and cows food sources aren't regulated you know. Also, when you have kids, don't immunize them. It causes Autism. Now, go about and enjoy."

Having to fill the newly obtained prescription for his depression and anxiety, the guy walked to the dispensary and scored his medicinal herb.

Say "Yo" for Pot!

I work in the medical field and I challenge anyone to look into the eyes
of a patient who is in pain and give them a lecture on the evils of
marijuana.

It's a plant created by God with only minor side effects.
I just wonder what gives anyone the right to say
"I will decide for you."

Looking them in the eye: Take conventional medicine, it's been tested by the FDA through clinical trials. The world doesn't need another pothead.

He told you all this during a traffic stop? Sounds like he was pretty coherent. I doubt a drunk could spin such a tale yet booze is legal and pot is not.

Hmmm-why the negativity towards my comment?

The brand new poster (for whatever reason) came across to me as a person telling a whopper for the benefit of empathy to a cause. That cause-appears to me to be an attempt to garner support for a legal pot shop in town.

Hey maybe I'm wrong.

But,. I didn't speak nasty to any of you about your opinion on the subject-now did I?

And if the guy really does have gran mal seizure and epilepsy-legal drugs do great things for it.

Potheads can find an excuse for tokin.

The ones whom the medical cards are really meant for-are a small number in our society, after you eliminate the scammers.

Am I cycnical of addicts and their countless excuses? Yep. Sure am. The cards were designed for patients whom traditional meds do not exist. Or do not work for them. Or are terminal patients whom pain meds would take their quality of life from them.

Whatever, it takes a doctor to choose a course of treatment for patients.

Wow. Ok mods.

You're doing a great job.

Today's (July 24) Sac Bee: Feds will now allow medical marijuana at VA hospitals.

Looks like Folsom is behind the times.

I think this is great. They need to let mj be legalized and tax it. The guy, I have to admit, had a great story and the officer who wrote this story, had a lot of time to listen.

Funniest thing I have read here.
