I'm Italian, and I don't find their food appealing. My mom's sauce - on a bad day, is much, much better than anything I've ever had there.

+1

I'm Irish/Italian (don't mess with my temper)!! My mom (Italian) makes the only pasta sauce that I will eat (and that goes for my husband, too). I don't like Viscontes food at all (their sauces are terrible). Strings does a pretty good job on red sauce, but, when I go to any Italian restaurant, I always try to stick with something that doesn't require too much sauce as part of the meal. But, I'll eat Mom's sauce for breakfast, lunch and dinner on any given day (over rice, noodles, with meatballs, whatever.....) When I'm out, and the restaurant offers pizza (and that's not even Italian), I'll order that. But, I'm sure Viscontes has their following and will probably survive. Just my 2 cents.

You're kidding me - right? Macaroni Grill? I've spent years eating all throughout the New York and Philadelphia areas - I grew up just outside of Philly - some of the best Italian food this side of the Atlantic. Heck, every time I go to Manhattan - one of the first places I go is Little Italy and, when in Philly - I always hit the 9th Street Italian Market and love a meal at Dante and Luigi's. Ohhhh the humanity.

Macaroni Grill? For shame.

I too am from the East coast....nothing beats their Italian for sure.

The point was that an actual chain restaurant is more appealing and appetizing than Visconti's. I went to Visconti a few weeks ago and the food was extremely bland--in looks and taste. The only thing I could taste was the over-sweet tomato sauce. I've been to Macaroni Grill and they seem to mix it up a bit more with their menu and flavors.

I totally agree.....I grew up on some pretty decent Italian food and became a pretty good amateur Italian cook. Visconti's should have never moved from the hole-in-the-wall on the older side of town. I will not return, and quite frankly I am so tired of Mr. V walking around schmoozing that I could smack him upside his head. There is an arrogance and cockiness in the air at the new location, and as many of these posts indicate, if you can't back up the "attitude" with good food, you're screwed (an unintentional rhyme). Macaroni Grill puts forth the best effort as far as Italian food in Folsom. I hope Mr. V reads these posts and actually listens.

+1 to the post above. I really hope someone rubs this guy's face in this because outside of Folsom Forum I had asked two co-workers (who do not frequent here) for opinions on good Italian in folsom. Neither mentioned V's.

I usually just go to Macaroni Grill but wanted to try something diff. I asked one of them if they had tried Viscontis and he said it was terrible and he wouldn't go there.

Maybe we should all have a String's night? smile.gif

Wow - so many complaints about the service there. Add me to the bunch who won't be back. Last time we went were completely ignored for nearly 30 minutes. And we were surrounded by tables being served. None of the other servers even looked at us.

I love when restaurant owners schmooze -- IF they do it to ensure that their customers are satisfied with food and service. If they are schmoozing for any other reason and offer uncaring responses when you point out problems, that right there is a reason to not go back -- regardless of how the food tastes.

Add me to the list of disappointed past customers. Slow service, indifferent food and poor attitude. Friends of ours went and had a poor experience too. What a shame, that place could be a goldmine.

Wow..."completely ignored for nearly 30 minutes" I would NEVER sit for more than FIVE minutes without some sort of recognition...Did you happen to take an invisible pill with your vitamin that morning....don't mean to piss off anyone....

I really don't know what happened. It was surreal. The owner did stop by in the first 3-5 minutes and said hi, then that was the last we heard from anyone for 20 minutes, this despite asking bus people for a waiter. Never been back and never going back.

I work too hard for my money to waste it on bland (and expensive!) food and poor service.

The move killed them. We loved Visconti's before then and went almost monthly. Unfortunately, I have to agree that the service, quality and value have dropped. We've only been a few times since the move and the last couple of times it was always because we were meeting other people there.

I still love their sauce and bread, though. Too bad you don't get much sauce on the plate anymore and they try to charge you for extra.

+1000!

That's my personal gauge for restaurant ratings and whether I'll return and continue to patronize a restaurant - or not.

I am not wealthy (yet) and my wife and I are good cooks (IMO), so when we go out, we are selective about where we went to spend our hard earned money and we only patronize places that have the following qualities;
1) very good food with fresh ingredients that taste great and has a "wow factor". I can make good food at home, so when we go out we like to go to restaurants that can make food better then we can.
2) very good service with a good attitude which is important, nobody wants to deal with bad attitudes and grumpiness, why pay for that?
3) nice ambiance, its nice when a place looks good, its not always necessary but it does enhance the dining experience.
4) The entire experience on a whole must make for a good time so that we feel it was well worth spending the money.

There are a lot of good places in town but some are not consistent and others skimp on quality ingredients sometimes, when we find a place that has the above qualities and they are always consistent and good, those are the places we will continue to go to every time we choose to dine out.
