I agree with you, to some extent. However, the city can afford to pay (and is currently paying) their police chief $50k to $60k more than any other in the area (with the exception of the City of Sacto.), but this doesn't make it right. He should be paid a fair salary, and fair is what the other cities in our area with roughly the same population and crime rate are paying their police chiefs. He doesn't deserve $210k per year in salary (which when adding in other pay-outs and benefits probably well exceeds $300k per year), regardless of how well of a job he's done.
