why not? it's a great idea! no trigger happy would not be good, apprehend and return the
to jail, yes. i really agree with Meg, I think it's pretty retarded that we find out so late about these things. somethings has to be done differently here.

Do you understand why it takes so long to hear about these things?
-Inmates escape around 9 am. Could take the guards a few minutes to realize they are gone.
-The prison is now put into lockdown, meaning all inmates must be returned to their cells. This takes time.
-The guards now have to count and recount ALL of the prisoners to make sure it is not a mistake.
-Then they have to search the prison property to make sure they are not just hiding out.
-Once is is deemed probable that prisoners have in fact escaped, then the information is passed to the city, news media, etc.

If they pulled the "big red handle" every time they *thought* and inmate was missing, then we would have a lot of false alarms around here...

I understand the concern about false alarms, however I was notified at least 5 hours before media had the info. And I did not receive the info from law enforcement, someone else within a company, who was notified by law enforcement. So by around noon, they knew there were missing prisoners.

I saw it on the news around noon. But I guess that is just because I check news websites often...

They never get too far before being caught...

At least they were not convicted for violent/sexual crimes...

???

or like the last one, a wife beater.

Me thinks they need to reconsider just how much freedom these people have. Or perhaps a better passive system for keeping them on prison grounds...

I could think of a few ways to moderately spend a "one" time sum on prison security upkeep..

its my understanding there are really two prisons out there, one a real lock up and the other kind of a loose one, and this is where all the escape/walk aways come from.

what they need to do is like my son did with his dog. he put one of those hidden fences up and a collar on the dog so when he gets close to the boundary he gets a shock...for the prisoner you could up the old voltage a little bit. you could even have a warning buzz when the prisoner got within 50 yards of the boudary wire.

this would make it a lot easier on us folsom citizens who get shook up every time one walks away...maybe they could use the word truant rather than escapee.

yes, we have two prisons now. The old historic prison has been a low-medium security facility for quite sometime now and the newer maximum security prison is located closer to the dam with the entrance over by Briggs Ranch.

Remeber folks, all of these suggestions for tracking with collars, public notification systems, etc COSTS MONEY.

Does the frequency of danger to the public warrant this additional cost, I think not.
I would rather be Backpacking

in context, in my opinion, the policies of the city regarding notification of prisoner escapes, are stupid. I mean no offense to you and yours, but I wouldn't go around reading too deep into one's language. as for refraining using the word in question, I will out of common courtesy but I am not obligated under any means bases on my 1st Amendment right. just want to make that crystal clear. sorry and thank you.

I think just as soon as they know, they should just sound a loud siren, just as a heads up ya know? I don't think a really loud siren would too expensive.

this is my guess - it's been a longstanding policy for the city NOT to do/say anything because quite frankly, city officials like to pretend there's no prison within city limits. Nothing to see here... Perhaps they do not want to cause a panic over a minimum security prisoner - it's bad for the city image. Unfortunately the sad truth is, when the escape is happening, these guys are desperate and will do anything to get outta dodge.

However, in the age of the internet and reverse 911, I think people are expecting instant notification. A twitter feed, SOMETHING...

i really like the siren idea, you could have a series of them so the noise would be the same in all parts of the city. I like the ones you see in the ww2 movies that announce the german air raids.

Ha! You nailed it, there's one goof in particular who thinks Folsom Prison doesn't exist and Johnny Cash was never here.
